  • I Love this Hobby!!

Just have to share.. It's been a while since i last posted a progress report But be warned!! this is a biggy!!

Over the last few months i felt that my progress was not as rapid as i had hoped for it to be.. Ok.. i think my flying has improved by miles, 7 months ago i had my 1st hop with my 600 and when looking at what i can do now i can see how much my flying has improved.. However, there hasn't been a knee shaking, heart pumping, smile inducing event in the last few months..

I have been slowly working on what i know and taking baby steps.. My flying is smoother and slower and more controlled.. Figure 8s, circuits (ish ), stall turns and the occasional cheeky attempt at the forementioned maneuvers while slowly pirouetting

In the last few weeks i started doing loops and flips (only with the Beam) and last week took it up to the 600.. Not very tidy but not a bad start..

Then came today!! Nice day compared to the week we've had and i wanted to fly.. Only had a couple of hours to fly, so up to the field i went with the 600 and although it was windy and the gusts were not nice.. It was not going to ruin my day.. First flight and was just getting used to the yoyo effect of the wind.. And did the usual 8s and circuits..

Then came my second flight, after more of the same and a few loops i got a bit bored!! So i decided to make it a bit more exciting!! I have practiced it on the sim and i think i might be ready (or not!!) but what the hell, i'll have a whole week to rebuild it if it goes t!ts up..

So i hover it about 30 feet high tail in and i flipped it.. And it sat there in an inverted hover... Wooo hooo!! oh yeah!! lol!! flipped out of it..

Now that's what i'm talking about!!.. Now we're getting somewhere!! Was so excited i did a couple more times adding a full pirouette while inverted for extra cockiness..

How exciting!! And i was buzzing!! So another tank of fuel goes in and for my last flight i go to the flightline.. Yup you guessed it.. Another few inverted hovers.. keeping the heli longer each time.. and trying to control the drift..

Somehow though amidst all the excitement, while flipping out of the inverted hover something happened and the next thing i know the heli was heading at full speed and max revs towards the ground like a dart ..

And yet i didn't panic!! i just stirred the sticks around and 3 feet off the ground my brain registered a familiar orientation and back up she went.. As soon as she was safe i let myself have that mild heart attack and brought her back to check the fuel.. Can't land when you have a third of a tank left!! so got my breath back and onto more inverted hovering until it was time to land..

Absolutely wonderful feeling! .. However, now i got to the stage where crashes are expensive!! forget stripping gears and breaking vertical fins.. Idle up 2, dart like nose down contact is the order of the day when things go wrong.. Nonetheless, if it gives me such an adrenaline rush, i guess its worth it..

    Damn i love this hobby!!!

Well done for the save. I had a similar episode when I first had my 600. I did a high inverted hover, but lost it, by the time it was something like where I knew I could save it it was very low, I banged in up elevator and pitch as it went behind a large earth mound, My heart sank for a second then relief as it pulled out of the other side.
Needless to say, at that point I went home (but fortunately didnt need to change my underwear)

Cool Mo!! I had a 'dart' incident myself today trying low (ish) four point tictocs!! Saved it inches from the deck nose in with the engine bogging like a b!tch!

Its all about the heart rate....!!!!!!!

My last time out with the nitro birds (Raptor 50 and Vision Ultimate) the thing that left me with a real feeling of satisfaction was getting in a fair amount of flying and never once having a brief moment of panic from losing orientation.

Before I almost always would have that momentary lapse where just for a second I'd think "is it leaning left or right, which way do I correct".

So just that extra feeling of being in control was a buzz for me.

Funny how the near heart attacks give us so much of a rush.

                          Well done Mo.

                          Keep at it
