  • A little help with starter motor re-assembly please

    Hi,
Today my starter motor button was sticking some times and wouldn't turn the motor on.
So tonight I have come home and taken it apart and cleaned up the contacts on the switch and all seems good. However I cannot for the life of me get the thing back together. The problem I have is the little contact things on springs that touch the coil. I can't hold them in against the springs and push it all back together if that makes sense. Is there a knack to get these things back together?
Any help greatly appreciated as ever
    Cheers, Rich

Try taking the plastic cover at the cone end of the starter off, so that you have the motor coil in one hand. Keep one contact in place with the end of the motor shaft and lever the other contact away from the shaft with a small screwdriver until the end of the shaft is seated.

        Hi,
I actually did this earlier and got it all back together. However I now can't do the nut up that holds the cone on as I can't grip the shaft in any way and it just spins.

That may work. Thanks. I'll give it a try.
