  • Another computer question Windows 7

Finally made the move to windows 7 from vista, went down the clean installation route (not the update).
    It looks good
    It runs faster than Vista
Most importantly it runs Phoenix RC very nicely

    BUT

Why does it crash on shut down or defrag or if I leave the PC for a long time, when I come back all is on but I can NOT get it to start anything, So I end up resting it. Has anyone encountered this problem ??

    Thanks in advance guys

    Z

Yes, I have that problem too. The PC just stops responding to mouse clicks and keyboard input.

I found if it happens I just leave it for about 2 minutes then its all OK again, I suppose it will be fixed in SP1

Not had your problem but I do seem to have the odd issue with 7. I can't run Themes on any of the photo screensavers, I've had a couple of crashdumps and a few other minor niggles.

It sounds like a driver is not quite right.....Some dells have an issue with the NIC.....7 drivers are shocking in this area.....and the vista ones are not that much better. It does sound like a graphics card driver.

boot it in safe mode and remove the updates.

XP has extended support until 2014 because 70% of us are still using it compared with 18% of Vista users.
Be aware windows 8 is due release in 2012........ i just don't see the need to fork out for an OS every time a new one is released!! I might as well wait and spend the money on a shiney new heli
This is a reply to another thread i posted about win7 .... just because it is new.... does not mean it is better!! As with all software, new and improved versions need patching. Give it time, then upgrade!!

                            Just my advice......

could it be that your computer is going into standby and is not waking up correctly. I have had to disable the function on my win7 rc install as the computer often doesnt wake up.

You can tell if its in standby if the PC is quiet i,e, no fans etc running. If this is the case go into control panel and power options and disable system standby. cant remember exactly where the setting is tho as im not in front of my main pc at the moment
