    THREAD FROM THE DEAD

Did we ever get to the bottom of why the Align starter looses power??

Reason I ask is I used someones Align starter on my 90 on Sunday as some one was using mine, and it lost all its power, or so he says. I thought it was a weak ass peice of turd to begin with? Ive cleaned the comm on the motor and freed the brushes but it still aint strong! And ist not like my motor is tight either. Mine on 4s wings it round no issues!
Some say my left nipple is the shape of a Raptor canopy.......... And that for fun I chase sheep in wellies 3 sizes too big. All I know is I am 3D Clod

Yeah that is a touch sad! LOL

Its wierd tho, it just feels really weak and no reason for it really either. Maybe just the cheap sh!t motors that they use.

After lots of threads over the years about the Align starters it seems you either get a good one or a dud. Maybe it's the old thing about one made on a Tuesday vs one made on a Friday (and Monday isn't the best day either if memory serves).

Mine has been OK after I changed the wand for one made of metal instead of cheese and these days I don't use it on .91 engines as it struggles sometimes. But it's great on .50 engines :-)

Put a Voltz 3S 40C in mine and its great, have had to replace the wand once as the one way bearing gave up. Starts my T-Rex 700N no problem and lasts well all day at the field.

Im looking at it now and it could easily be re wired to take a 4s. My starter 4s will fit (2650 zippy) but its a bit tight a lower capacity would be fine. IMO this little 550 motor theyve got in is a crap solution. Look at the size of a dynatron coil and magnet assy, or an irvine/hangar9 cheapy. Theres a reason theyre that big!!.

Im wondering now about shoe horning a brushless in or a 750 can brushed out of a nitro car starter box (have some of them here)
Or maybe just do away with the pcb itself. I cant see any need for it and its throttling the current to the motor!

Could do well with that although i'd be careful about keeping it cool if you upgrade.
