Bac's Payments.

Could be interesting subject! I have purchased some goods & offered to pay by Bac's as this way saves on paypal charges but the seller has to give you sort code & account number.
I often pay this way & have sold goods to be payed by Bac's but thinking about it how secure do you feel giving bank details this way.

Bacs is not for me,It's just not secure enough and from reading the 450 for sale thread and how Brin has been treated by the seller,you just don't know who to trust these days. So for me I will stick with paypal as it seems the best way at present.

I use bank transfer both to pay and to be paid and never had n e problems with it either way .. Saying that I only buy offa people I trust and know ... you can get ripped off with n e thing so for me its about the same ...You tend to get a feeling for people and TBH the forum is just that a place to meet and chat and selling/buying is a byproduct of that .. I have bought and sold alot of stuff through the forum and tbh never had one issue using bacs

There is no real security issue - every time you write a cheque - yes, I know, so old-fashioned - your account and sort code are on there. The problem is if there is a difficulty in goods delivered etc. With Paypal, there is an established complaints procedure with some chance of recompense. BACS, you are on your own.

I've payed and been payed using bank transfers a few times and never had any problems and saves paypal taking there cut especially if its something quite expensive as there cut can end up being quite a lot.. just my opinion of course..

I use paypal quite a lot as most of the time its from retailers so they tend to pay the fee's but i also use debit,credit,bank transfer,and cheque's my credit card is the only one that i have had trouble with, on two occasions its been used fraudulently. all credit to the credit card company they have sorted it out very quickly and without any loss to me.

If people are worried about their account and sort code getting into the wrong hands, you could open a new account with no overdraft facility, that way you could only lose what you keep in there.

We do it all the time here in Switzerland and never a problem.
But the UK banks do things differently and there is a lot of identity theft going on, so I don't know if i would so much there.

I use bank transfer when I can as it makes life simple, as an individual there are no fee's (yes a business is charged about £6 a transfer uk to uk).

Giving your account number and sort code only gives some one the opportunity to put money into your account, (now there is a thought)

To get it out they have to have access to the account on line, which means they have screwed you anyway.

Compared to sending money as a paypal gift, the bank transfer is better.
However with paypal an online vendor gets a payment confirmation as part of the ordering process (eg with FL) but wioth a bank transfer they don't get an immediate automatic notification - so you have to call them if you want your stuff put into the Royal Mail storage heap same day.
