The odd single blade thread

i destroyed one of my titans earlier this yr from using crashed "perfect condition" mixed blades. They were from 2 seperate set of SAB's. I had them balanced cord & span wise, both were flexed and tested by my hand for any signs of weakness but they seemed perfect. First flight i was flying fast backwards and flicked it vertical for a backwards wall. One of the blades snapped about 15mm from the screw hole totally destroying my heli!

I'll never use crashed blades again. It was a seriously expensive lesson fo me!

Yeah, I would not use such a blade on anything bigger than a 450 because the stresses are so great and the blade construction makes it too hard to tell what damage may be lurking inside.

I guess really the only safe bet is not to use any crashed blade, the possible exception being a cheap solid plastic 450 (or smaller) blade and then the cost is so low it's not really worth it.

Soooooo, bottom line is... crashed blades should prob not go back on a heli. They are doomed to a life far less exciting than they once had

I have mentioned this in other posts which crop up about crashed blades. Blades which do look perfect, can be damaged especially nearer the root of the blade. So although looking perfect, they 'may' have sustained internal damage from the force of being bent up due to a crash.

You can usually notice this if the root is clamped, and putting your ear closer to the blade, and flex the blade. If you can hear a 'fracture' type noise the blade is damaged enough not to use it.. even if no noticeable damage is seen.

I've only used crashed blades on my 450 though...

Bottom line.. Not adviseable to use crash blades.. but, myself, I have done so without any failures. Just do so at your own peril.

Iv got 2 maniac insane 690's that arent a pair, neither were crashed, a paddle came off and smashed one of them and landed it ok and the other time a bolt fell out the boom support and smashed that one and landed ok. So they arent damaged. Yours for only a tenner each. Bargain!! If you can get them to match up
