  • 3-Blade Nose-In

Just had my GAUI EP100 3-Blade (PixyZap - yep, really...) nose-in for the first time.

'So what ?', you may say. This is flybar-less, and has no pitch/roll stabilisation at all. It's quirky and interesting to say the least. Makes a 4#3 seem like a co-ax.

    Kind of pointless, but challenging.

I know where your coming from! Its not easy flying a multiblade with no stabalization apart from a gyro on the tail!

I had a 5 blade mounted on a Trex 450 in 500E fuse. I could get it into a hover abeit being a bit twitchy, but anything more than that and the tail lost authority. With all the v-bar systems available now, i reckon with that installed it would have been a nice heli to fly!

If you are having any tail authority issues, try altering the headspeed up/down as it can have quite a drastic effect on how it flies.

Strangely, I found that with big training gear on, it was quite well-behaved. Though very dependant on head-speed (so handling changes as the pack runs down - which is why governors rule...)

[T/G for a HoneyBee CP2. About 1.5 times the rotor daimeter.]

I learnt to hover on this 3-blade, having got part way there with a Buzz-Fly (with T/G). It's also quite robust.

I was quite shocked what a difference it made taking the T/G off. Suddenly it wasn't at all docile...

No room for a screen - so up close & personal.

TBH, I'm more worried about putting the H200 through a ceiling tile...

Did I see that at DMHC in 2008 ?

The tail seems ok. Then again, you have to be so careful with your inputs that you're not going to suddenly give it loads of throttle.

I did wonder about sticking a flybarless system on this, but the servo mountings aren't conducive to swapping to digital servos, so I think I'll just leave it as it is.

You probably did see it. Yellow 500E It was on the parcel shelf of my car.

Did you know there are now 3 and 4 blade tail units available for 450 size heli's? Not sure if they would fit yours though

Hey if it was losing tail authority then I doubt a Vbar would cure that! I guess you were using 5x standard Align 325mm blades on the 5 blade head? If so then that is why you lose tail authority, because you had 2.5x more main blades, and no extra tail blades?

Well done, its alot harder to fly 3 bladers, alot more twitchy in the cyclic movement

I have designed and machined a 3 blade head for my Twister 3D

here is a pic of it flying in the garden,

no taking the p1ss out of my windsock though

i have a vid aswell if someone could tell me how to post it up, it is an AVI file

                    cheers
