  • Check you TX after Service

    This is just an advisory.

I had a customer who sent his DX6I back to horizon for the pots to be changed, and i'll give them there dues the turn around was quick.

The TX came back with a service report to say the post had been changed and the unit had been tested.

So at the weekend his first time to fly since getting the unit back.

Just to be on the safe side we went back over the bind process, check movements then stepped back. the model got about 15ft away and stopped responding motor cut out and there was a complete loss of control and in it went.

After testing all the electronic parts we found that when range checking we had an inconsistent range of 1ft-20ft so we took the back of the RX off only to find that the Arial coax cable that runs from the back of the circuit board into the top of the RX was not connected. Now i know these don't just pop off and i know it’s not down to misuse..

Horizon where not interested and basically called him a liar and that he must have done it himself and abused the TX....

Now i don't want to start a witch hunt with HH because on the hole they offer a good service and a quick turn around

If you send your TX back for service please take the back off and check that everything is connected when you get it back just to be on the safe side before you go fly.

    Regards,
    Alastair

i fully understand what your getting at but surely as soon as you remove the back from the unit your voiding the warranty ?i dont think they would even entertain repairs if the back looks to of been removed at sometime?

      Hi A.J

Opening the back of the unit does not void any warranty on the unit. We have checked this with HH, and it also tells you to do this in the manual to adjust the sticks.

Not sure if the DX6i is the same as most other TX's, if so you have to take the back off to adjust the spring tension on the sticks, I'd be a very unhappy bunny if adjusting the spring tension voided the warranty.

Disappointing at the response from HH, every other report I've seen has been glowing with praise although they are human and mistakes do happen. If the aerial lead has been disconnected while the TX has been switched on this could burn out the RF board so I'd carry out another very full range test before flying with it again.

Rather than take the back off, why not just carry out a proper range test, as you always should after doing anything to the rx or tx. Mind you, being that you had already plugged it in, I'm not sure what you were expecting horizon to do? It sounds like a simple mistake, everyone is human!

thats correct you have to open it up to adjust them, did mine recently, HH also sent me 3 new trim tabs and both the aileron and rudder dual rate switches to fit , they certainly didnt give me the impression I shouldnt be tinkering with it myself.

I thought DampBullet mentioned in his opening post to this thread that "we took the back of the RX off .....".

I'm sure I have read somewhere in the Spektrum literature that opening the RX would void the warranty. I do realise that taking the back off the TX would be part of a general maintenance check-up and thus be perfectly accecptable to Specktrum.

Nevertheless, I hope you get satisfaction from HH.
