  • Brilliant...Best days flying so far

I took my Twister 3D Storm to a playing field which is unused as the school went bust but luckily I have free free use of it until the developers get their hands on it. It is only 2-3 mins from home too It's a shame I can't invite friends there - apparently the nun's who live in the attached convent won't be too keen.

Anyway, the first battery I put through was ok, just hovering, forward and backward flight as usual. The tail was very twitchy so I bought the gain on the DX7 end points down to about 45 and it was a tiny bit better but to really fix it I had to bring the head speed right down.

Then on the second battery the tail servo completely broke and and the heli started piro'ing. Somehow I managed to get it down with no damage other than a broken tail fin (which was fixed previously with splints from a previous incident).

So, off to Avicraft and I got a Savox SH-0257 to replace the broken standard JP EnErG 7.5 and a new tail fin.

The result was brilliant, after increasing the gain again the tail was rock solid and I bought myself out of just forward and backward flight in to doing full circuits and, nice sharp turns. I just seemed to be able to put it all together, and best of all I ran all of my batteries and bought it home in one piece. Great day Next time I will have to try and up the head speed.

Sorry to ramble...just wanted to share.

Nice one Jack! Glad you have had a good days flying.I must say though that tail servo going bust on you was good in a way because it has made you go out and buy a better one and in return your flying has improved.Result!
    Cheers Grant.

      well down
i started with the 3d storm, good hardy heli, but the tail servos are notorious for going

what Gyro have you got on it ???? i changed the original for a futaba gy401 and futaba 3154 servo and it completely transformed it

and they do like to have the headspeed up quite high

I have the Align GP750 now which is much better. I am running at 70% head speed at the moment.

oh that gyro will be perfect on there
70% headspeed is probably quite good for you at the moment

once i had got the hang of circuits i put 2 idle ups in to mine and started to be adventurous
          idle up1 was 90 80 70 80 90
          idle up 2 was 100 95 90 95 100

but after a while i stopped using idle 1 and just got used to idle 2 the only trouble was the battery time was less !!
but the heli taught me loads about stick inputs and generally flying, it wasnt until i moved on to other helis i realised how twitchy the twister is, my trex 450 is much easier to hover

keep going it sounds like your going great and its always nice to take a bunch of flat batteries home and a heli in one piece

Cheers Steve. You answered my next question. I thought the T3DS was quite stable today in a hover and I was going to ask how much of a difference could the 450 Pro which I am wanting to order very soon be? Will it be like a completely different experience or just a bit better when in flight?

Tonight I setup the Tx for:

            Idle Up 1: 80 80 80 80 80
            Idle Up 2: 100 100 90 100 100

Just need to flick the switch now...will be a little while yet though.

              no problem jack
the 450 pro will be a lot better, but not completely different mainly due to the plastic bits on the storm probably bend and twist a bit where as the 450 pro will be all metal head
if you can hover and fly the storm you wont have any problem moving over to the 450
              idle ups look good
what is you pitch curve like, do you have a curve or are you just using a linear line

                  Jack

Nice to see your getting confident/enjoying the T3DS. It's a good starter & your probably about right for a move on now.
                  The T450 sounds ideal.
Must meet up & have another flight sometime.
You can teach a man everything. Apart from experience.

Cheers. My normal pitch curve starts at about 40 and goes to 100 linear.

My idle ups are linear 0-100 - about 9 degrees either way.
