hi guys yes in the midlands -)
we have a confirmed location in the west midlands to be announced.but depending on the amount of entrys may alter but looks likely to be the one.also we have a giant location that we are cosidering at the moment and are in talks with the locations event team which would make UK 3D SMACKDOWN an international event.but we are in the planning stage at the moment.
WE WILL TRY TO CONTACT COMPETITION PILOTS BY EMAIL OR PHONE and give them the chance to compete in our competition an .ALSO WE WILL NOT REFUSE ANY PILOTS WHO WISHES TO BE INVOLVED IN THE COMPETITION..but there will be a closing date to be announced(but they must have a b on application)

Craig...... not wanting to dampen your spirits etc as I'm all for more events BUT ......

This competition looks like it's targetting all the same pilots that will be flying in 3D Champs 2010. I can't see the point of running a comp for all those pilots two months ahead of 3D Champs. The pilots you are targetting find it hard enough to do one competition in a year and all this will do is split that community OR they will use it as a practice run of their routines for 3D Champs later in the year. Personally I don't really want to see the same flights repeated for 3D champs.........perhaps your enthusiasm would be better placed targetting those who would like to compete but at a lower level of flying ability as we are sorely missing entry level competitions and by running one you target a whole different set of pilots.

Thats how the guys are running the scottish events the same way, and making the begineers class A certs acceptable as well to attract more pilots

fair enough Craig but if you look at the very top pilot in the UK (Duncan) he used the same routines for Champs as he did for 3D Masters, now if he can only sort out one set of routines a year then I can't see others doing any better. We need more competitions and diversity within them, not the same competition and pilots repeated every two months. Of course do what you feel is best but as a pilot I'm stating what I think many of the pilots feel, which is one (UK) top level 3D competition is enough...... we need more pilots competing and for that to happen you have to lower the bar and run a comp for those pilots. Invite the top 3D pilots to come and demo at your event instead, then you get a mix of flying to attract the crowds and a healthy competitor list.

I see where Ash is going here, and yes, the one thing the scottish event is going to be doing is attract lower skilled, up and coming pilots into the mix.
As for more events through the year, i don't see why that is a problem, i sure as hell can't remember what individuals sets were at the champs as a spectator, and surly other won't be able to either

James, it's more a pilot thing....... one set of routines a year is MORE than enough to deal with, believe me you don't realise how much work is involved in doing it until you have a go yourself. The problem with repeat flying routines is they loose their uniqueness and impact........which degenerates the appeal of going and seeing the next competition if you know you are going to see the exact same flight to music or whatever. As example I watched Duncan's flight to music, at 3D Masters it was awesome......at champs I'd seen it before. This very thing also makes it difficult for the judges as seeing the same flight knocks the impact out of it and the scores can get affected by that. Just like watching a film, first time you have no idea what's going to happen, there's excitement and drama. Second time you watch that film it's still entertaining but you won't get the same overall enjoyment, you know what's coming next.
