  • Thinking of upgrading the firmware in your Eagle Tree V2?

Posted this in a couple of places, but just in case it will save someone some grief:

    Hi

If you have an Eagle Tree V2 data logger, you might want to consider leaving the firmware and PC software at whatever version it's on now. Let me explain why.

I had a perfectly serviceable V2 which I decided to upgrade to the latest V2 firmware and software. Following the instructions (which are pretty simple), the firmware upgraded but then the software on the PC froze. When I restarted it, the USB light on the data logger would not and still will not light - the device has been left in a broken state.

I have since found other references in a couple of forums to this phenomenon, so it's by no means an isolated occurence.

What is disappointing is Eagle Tree's response - they think it reasonable that I should ship the device to them at my expense (both ways) and also pay a repair charge. Since this would cost more than price of a V3, this is merely a roundabout way of saying 'get lost'. Let me reiterate - this was a perfectly functional device before I applied their upgrade.

So, in conclusion, if it works - leave it alone!

    Regards
    John

Sounds like the bootloader didnt complete the update and has been left in a non functioning state... This is always the risk when upgrading firmware that does not have a 2nd backup copy on the device.

I would expect them to re-flash the microcontroller though as the fault was as a result of upgrading their code using their s/w that failed.

Certainly doesn't do their reputation any good, you would think people would fight tooth and nail to keep their reputation.

If this were Horizon, they would reflash FOC without question or hassle as they do with their Spektrum RX's.

Shame on Eagle Tree. I have an e-logger V3 and I will now be wary of ever re-flashing it!
