  • Bizare Setup - help!

    Hi All

I have not posted for quite a while - though I'd get my head down and practice.

Anyway, I am having some setup nightmares - and would really like some help or explanations:

It all revolves around cyclic / head setup.

First up is my Srimok - this has very strange characteristics, but after loads of help from Jamiem is is flying loverly HOWEVER - the cyclic was super slow, I mean dangerously slow, after some fetling and moving the flybar weights right in (following Jamiem's advice), the cyclic is how I want it, although gentle manouvers and landing is very difficult. i.e. centre stick is twitchy as hell - even with LOADS of expo....making smooth flying very difficult, but achievable.

Next is my 450 - which I love and wish i could setup all of my heli's like this: centre stick and hovering it is rock solid (15% expo helps this a lot), but give it big stick movements and the cyclic is MENTAL, I mean it rolls and flips so fast it is unbelieveable - great! only because smooth stick inputs result in very smooth and stable flying, it does not run away with itself either.

Finally my new Rave 3D: wasp on steroids! cyclic is no where near as fast as the 450, but it is twitchy as hell. I cannot hover this heli, even tail in - it has to be flying. And if a slight mistake is made during flying it gets away from me FAST, I mean this thing must be able to do 0-100MPH in about two seconds, yet the cyclic is slow.

I also have a trex600, which is perfect in every way. super stable when I want it to be, and fast and flickable when I want it to be, just Greeeaaat!

    My 250 is a 250 is a 250 is a 250......and flies perfectly.

The question is, how do I get my Srimok and more to the point the Rave 3D have similar characteristics to the 450 or 600 or even the 250?

I am an engineer, and I think that I know a bit about setup, and have taught others to setup their heli's perfectly with great results, and while I can setup these heli's perfectly, the flying characteristics elude me!

I.E. How do I setup a heli to be slow and solid near centre stick, but fast and quick with big stick inputs?

So, over to you ! -HELP-

As far as the Srimok goes, the head is adjustable to speed up the reactions and to slow them down.
To have it slow around mid-stick and faster further out, you would setup the mechanics to be fast and then use the Tx to dial in expo to slow it down around mid-stick.

The speed or reaction depends on servos, blades and paddles used, as well as mechanical setup.

    Cheers,

you tried different paddles ??? some people tend to overlook paddles as they not expensive things in the bigger picture of helis ...

            Hi

            Tnanx for the replies.

Well, the Srimok flies great, it is just a handful, specially at slow speed / hovering. Faster stuff / circuits etc okay, but rewards only precise flying. (and therefore its all over the place with me ). However, the roll rate etc is not blistering fast, in fact its a bit slow....

So the crux of the matter is: What part of the mechanical setup influences this area of setup. i.e. there is a lot of science behind paddles, weights, length of flybar and of course the two programmable parts of the head. A longer flybar, for example, actually increases cyclic response.

It will take me absolutley ages to test and work out what each items does, so I'm looking for help from someone that knows the way the head works very well......

I can't understand how my 450 can be rock solid at centre stick and ultra fast on cyclic, whilst the Srimok and Rave are the other way round. This must be a ratio/setup thing.

I mean I can hover the 450 inverted like its parked there (and the 250 and 600), but the Srimok and Rave are very, very hard work tail in right way up just to keep in a very general hover. There just has got to be an answer to this...????
