Well I've dropped the motor out tonight and checked the low end idle seting and found it to be 5 turns out from fully in. I don't know what the stock setting is but yes the guy I was working with said it sounded rich on idle but at the end of our time it was 'hanging on the pipe' as you put it and when in a hover it started to loose power as if it was overheating, IE too lean and we were only hopping about so not much more than 50 to 60% throttle with no governor..
How did you get to your setting on the low end idle, I am going to get it on idle and lean it off until the revs start to rise and then maybe add a turn back to richen up a little to see where I end up compared to the 5 turns I have now. Just going to be trail and error I guess.
