Yea I'm pretty sure you know him Dave. When I described him to crash-alot he said I should PM you as you probably know him.Originally posted by youngdave View PostI think I've just clicked who it is. If it is I'm very very surprised. He's a very respected member of our club, unbelievable. He normally maintains them without cost and I've never seen him put one in, ever. Wow!Guy

Yeah I do know him, quite well. An outstanding pilot but by the looks of it not an outstanding seller. It's a shame, I know he's gone through hard times the last year or so with being made redundant twice but that's absolutely no reason to sell a machine in the state you bought it. I suppose you live and learn but it's a bit of nightmare to go through for a 600. As I said above I've never seen him put a heli in, ever.

I did a deal with a RCHA user a while ago on a heli airframe and wish I hadn't. It looked fine and tight when I viewed it, but first time out had some vibes so I started digging around more closely around the airframe. The stuff that I found that was knackered - many bearings, main gear warped, blade grips mullered, threads stripped etc etc etc. I've now got the heli flying great and use it most weekends, but it's cost me more than a brand new one when you add up the value of the purchase and all the bits needed to get it right.
Odd thing is - the user concerned hasn't made a post on the forum since June, about the time we did the deal. Say no more.
Ho hum - as has been said - buyer beware. Will I buy 2nd hand again? Certainly. Most of the time, especially through site users, have no problem at all.JR Vibe Fifty fb (YS56)

I must of been one of the lucky ones, back in June got a 2nd hand but brand new 600nsp still in its box & packs still sealed also with everything needed to assemble ready to fly from a chap in Ireland 800 smackers & I wanted to be sure on what i was getting so I emailed him then got his address details followed by pictures of what I was getting for my money then spoke to him by phone to get his bank details then once I was sure I crossed all the T's I then made the bac's payment on proof of postage details.Today's outlook is fine for flying.- Spektrum DX18 gen2, Phoenix Sims, Align MR25XP.

As you guys know him you'd understand why I didnt treat the sale with any sort trepidation, he came across as a genuine bloke, knows his way round a heli and you'd think one of his machines would be in pretty good order.Originally posted by youngdave View PostYeah I do know him, quite well.
Bearing in mind he's fitted a Kasama head, JR servos, Futaba 611/BLS251 etc you must be surprised that someone like him would go to all that expense and then use a £7.50 Zebra HZS218 on his throttle! Something about this heli just didnt make sense.Guy

Yeah, nearly as shocked as you were. The heli if the same one came from another top pilot in the club so can't even begin to imagine where the damage come from. He's certainly gone down in my estimation. I'm only sorry that you had to go through it all. It will certainly be talked about tomorrow.

You'll have to let me know if it does come up in conversation Dave.Originally posted by youngdave View PostIt will certainly be talked about tomorrow.
And I should point out to those who dont know that this particular chap in no way represents the overall membership of the MK club. I wouldnt want this thread to damage the reputation of any of his fellow members who I hold in the highest regard.Guy

I think the last time rob flow this heli was at the mk flyin and not long after that he was made redundant and had to sell almost all of his helis from 2x trex 450, 2x trex 600, trex 500 and a trex 250. i know he put alot of money and heart in to his hobby.
So thats why im lost for words mate, he is a member of this forumProud member of the Mk Heli Club

Just been pointed in the direction of this post and think i should try and clear a few things up. I'm not gonna sit on here for hours arguing with anyone so i'll just say what i thinks fair an sign off.
Well ill start with his over zealous description of faults. Firstly the "gouged" MP5 just has a rub mark on it where I didn't quite file the frames enough but is only a slight cosmetic mark which is completely out of site and the muffler still functions 100%.
"Overtightened tail blades bent" Well thats not the case at all and had he taken the time to either contact me about it or done a little search on here he would have quickly found that the kasama tail grips are a bit tight when it comes to readix tail blades (and others) thats how they are. Do a search on it.
As for the CSM carbsmart not having a cover thats because it was a first production one brought from the 3DM when they were released and they have not got a cover. This wasn't advertised as being with the heli as i had borrowed the servo off of it and didn't want to set it back up so basically he had this as an extra so wasn't even part of the sale. I told him about it at the sale and had i remembered about the mixture retainer then i would have given that to him. All he had to do was contact me an i would have sent it to him.
Throttle servo "not up to the job". Well now I'm getting slated for this guys opinion!? whats up with that? Now ask anyone who's seen me fly this 600 weather it looked like the servo was up to the job. Theres some reputable guys on here that have seen me fly.
"Paddles out of track buy 2mm" well they could have got knocked at any time he had this thrown in the back of his car to get it home. JUST LEVEL THEM UP! and if this is a problem for you consider a different hobby.
Gyro. Well firstly for the mix up on the gyro i had 8 models at the time and made an error on listing which gyro this one had. He was contacted as soon as i realised in plenty of time before he had to change any arrangement, I explained the mix up asked him if he wanted to go ahead with the sale an he did, I cant be any fairer than that. As far as gyro set up goes, again ask the people who saw me fly it, did the gyro look OK, no it looked rock solid because it was! Now remember my controller wasn't in the sale so of course he gonna need to set it back up.
The engine! Right know this is just about the only thing that has any up standing reason to gripe about and this is why i did what i thought was fair to rectify it. I offered him either £60 towards the cost of repairing the engine so over half the engines cost new. I also offered him a complete refund on the model minus £50 if he'd prefer as the engine broke in his possession. For all i know he could have hot started it and left it screaming till it seized up so i wasn't going to except total responsibility for it, but due to the short time between the engine leaving my possession and becoming broke i gave the guy the benifit of the doubt that he'd done nothing stupid with it.
As for the main shaft bearings being a bit worn (if that was the case) well what can i say if you want a new model go to the shop and buy one. The "bent" main shaft well I'm noticing a pattern with this chap so maybe it was bent in his mind but still either way it came with new main shaft so no loss there.
I would also like to say that just think about it guys if this model was as bad as he would have you believe he would have pulled my arm off to get the refund i offered him. A couple of you have said you'd have taken the refund and based on what hes said so would anyone else. The truth is this guy is just one of those people that expects a brand new model even though i was clearly selling a used one. He's prepared to moan about the smallest thing, like "it was dirty on the inside" ,"the paddles were slightly out of line". That there says it all! This chap is just one of those people who wants something for nothing ands got way to much time on hes hands to sit on here fabricating or at least bulking out what was an unfortunate problem with the engine. Which to the best of me ability i tried to put right for him. This post should be tittled SELLER BEWARE! for these kind of people.
An finally in an effort to clear my name, just a bit of my selling history. Ive sold 7 of my models and countless other items through eBay and BMFA and apart from this guy not a single complaint. Now it appears you have all had a look at my eBay which is good because hopefully you would have noticed the perfect feedback both as a seller and a buyer. I am a genuine stand up guy and my record reflects this.
Also thanks to the chaps that actually know me an spoke up to say that I am a genuine guy, mainly Dave and Steve. Cheers guys its appreciated.
Could I also ask a moderator to stop anymore activity on this thread. Don't get rid of it as I've got nothing to hide and would like people to read my perspective, but just to stop the inevitable slagging match i think it would be fairer to me if people read both sides of whats been said then they can make up there own minds about it. It's not about backing anyone up it's good to have both sides though. I let Rob know about this once I realised who it was that sold it to Gate88. I know both of you having met you at our Flyin and I also know Rob. In fairness Gate88 didn't slag Rob off he just posted about the dangers of buying second hand. He didn't name him apart from the ebay username. It didn't take long to work that out for me, and I was shocked. I followed Gate88's problems as I offered him £20 for it
. It's a shame it didn't get sorted out without you having to go through all of the above though.

I'm not going to dignify that with a point by point answer I'm afraid. Just to say they're not my opinions they were factual observaions made by several very experienced flyers & Trex owners.
I didnt expect a new model, I expected a ready to fly one as advertised, that said I also expected a fair degree of setup but not the financial outlay.
Hot starts dont make engine bearings rust. No one I've ever met uses £7.50 servos on a £700 heli. Grips should never be tightened to the extent that you have to lever blades out with a screwdriver.
I've got no axe to grind with Rob, I simply posted this thread as a warning to others about buying 2nd hand heli's in general and because I'd had that many problems with it people had been interested to hear the whole story.
Feel free to study my ebay profile actioncars109.
And there's plenty of people here will vouch for my honesty & integrity.Last edited by Gate88; 03-10-2009, 10:00 AM.Guy
