  • Raptor 90! opinions/advice please

ive been wanting a 90 size for a while now and with me having raptors in the past and learning to fly with one it seems like the right thing to do! just looking for advice and your opinions on the raptor 90 really! would love a rex 700 but budget/missus and kids dont allow at the moment ! lol! does anyone have one for sale maybe? thanks

T-rex 700 kit is cheaper and cheaper to fix....

if your on a tight budget the 700 wins but then also don't get a 90 because any 90 crash will hurt the pocket everytime.....

And rememebr align do 2 spares in a packet.... T.T don't thats for sure....

Raptor 90 solid machine just dated thats all

the raptor 90 is a solid performer
the parts don't wear out like the 700 ones
my 90 started life as a 60 in 2002 and is still flying great today
the 700 i had got sold off at 6 months old due to very poor reliablity
i'd rather go flying that keep fixing a heli that breaks itself every time it in the air

and as for parts pricing it does mean anything unless you crash every week

the other option if your going secondhand is the hirobo freya as they fetch very little on the used market and they fly well

the out of fashion machines are now a great buy secondhand

i have a v max that need the electrics and a few other bit to complete the rest of the heli has been used only twice before the bits got removed of it i would sell it for a sensiable price i can send you picks if you like but bear in mind its not just a raptor 90 its a v max a lot better then the standard r90

This is very true. I have seen some amazing deals out there and have been
very temped (so temped in fact that I baught a few of those out-of-fashion helis).

The thing about parts for the Raptor is that you can find lots of spares second-hand as well.

My 2 cents worth is that the Raptor 60 and 90 are truly works of art the way the metal and plastic frames are designed and just the whole look of them. I know looks should probably be secondary but IMHO it's a beautiful heli.

You have only got to see how young Stefan Simmons flew his at Champs to see that its a solid model and ask him his opinion, he loves it!

(vid coming soon) But yeah Stef put on the most awesome display with it!

One thing to consider, 90's are thirsty buggers and you wont get much more than 6 tanks out of a gallon. That's about double the consumption of a 50.

I'm lusting after a Raptor 90 too. I know the cost is high, which is a problem, so I'd be looking for a second-hand (ideally SE) model and I'd fund it by selling the 50v2 and my GL450. Fuel consumption isn't so much of an issue because I don't actually fly that often. Lovely looking machines.

Raptor 90 3d is the one to go for, and seeing Stefan at the champs give his a good bashing is a superb machine still.
Yes the parts are more and the design is older but a good reliable machine

The design may be old but the bottom line is this; The rotorhead mechanics have to deliver a certain cyclic pitch range /at the right phasing, enough collective pitch range, have the right geometry on the flybar, have enough rigidity and do all this with as little unwanted interaction as possible. If a design does this then it doesn't matter how old it is.
