  • Do upgrade or not to upgrade??

Ok, I have the blade400 and its all stock. I have been flying since Jan of this year. Know do I stay with the blade and give it upgrades like gyro ect as the tail dos not hold well at all. Or do I simply get a new heli like the trex 450? Whats the best thing to do?

depends if you have the money for a new heli. if not a futuba gy401 on your blade and a decent tail servo will do you. if you do have enough money then I recommend a 450 pro or sport

I dont really have loads of cash to splash out with. If I did upgrade my blade would it not just be the same as a trex? I mean its the same stuff your putting in is it not?

Sell the Blade on, and chip out a bit extra, and you will not go wrong with the 450 Sport. An excellent heli with very good gyro tail combo.

Well, your point is true to some degree. If you fit the same gyro, servos etc to your Blade then it will have the same gyro and servos in it as you might fit to, say, a T-rex 450. But that's where the similarities end.

Without wanting to be a smart Alec, if you fit a Porsche (or whatever your favourite marque) engine, gearbox, drivetrain and wheels onto a Reliant Robin, it'll still be a Reliant Robin with a nicer drive train.

Only you know if you want or can afford to upgrade or change helis. If you can afford to buy a 450, go for it. If not, buy the bits for your Blade and, when you can afford to buy a 450, or whatever, you can pull the gyro etc out of the Blade and fit them in the new model (assuming you don't destroy them beforehand).

this could well be a silly thing to ask but why is the 450 better apart from the gyro and servos than the blade?

My opinion is that they are smoother, feel more weighted and accurate..

Not having owned a 450 I'm not qualified to answer this. And would I say it is "better"? Maybe not. It's different for sure. But they each have their place in the RC heli world and both fill that place very well.

OK, if you look at the engineering and build quality then, IMHO, the T-rex 450 is better than the Blade.

I think its well worth upgrading the gyro and tail servo on the B400.

The nice thing about upgrading these parts is that you can transfer them onto a new heli if you decide to upgrade the airframe.
The same can be said of servos (as long as you buy a heli of the same size)

I dont think its worth upgrading anything else.

But upgrading the gyro and tail servo will set you back £120. for £170 more you could get the 450 Sport.

You would make a few ££ from the Blade too.

If and when I upgrade the gyro and servos will it be loads better to fly and do some 3D stuff.?

Upgrade, 100%. I just sold my Blade (subject to payment). I've got a T-rex 500, I know it's not a 450 but the T-rex is so much better than the Blade in terms of quality and feel in the air.

The blade in stock form is as far as I know totally capable of 3D flight, certainly seems to be capable looking at youtube etc. A gyro upgrade or faster more accurate servos might help glean some additional performance, however I personally (having recently researched the blade/450 option for a mate) would go to the 450 if you can stretch to it. As has been previously mentioned the blade has a 2nd hand value to help offset the outlay and this coupled with the cost of gyro/servos would not be far short of the 450 cost.

From what I understand the 450 flies like a larger helicopter, is very precise and a joy to fly - its also cheap to repair (like the blade is).
