  • Figure S?

    Hi guys

Had a great day at the field today. Put three tanks of fuel thru the 600 and was hovering nicely. Then I flew all 3 of my lipos off on my 500.

I'm not yet doing lazy eights. Mine are more of a lazy S, or half a lazy eight (lazy four perhaps?).

I'm going out to my left, turning about 70 degrees such that I'm almost side on, flying across in front of me, swinging the tail around to 70 degrees the other way and coming back.

Was great fun and I maintained control (but not always altitude).

Grinning from ear to ear I was...

On a related note (re; grinning from ear to ear), I was at the Southern Model airshow yesterday and they had Dave Fisher and a couple other hele pilots do a brief F3C style display. (there was not much heli in general though).

Anyway, the point being, I think it was an AHA rep commenting and he was asked what is the appeal of rc heli flying, or words to that effect, and he mentioned the challenge and skill needed and stuff but what he should have added is that you just cannot describe such a thing to people. It has to be experienced to be appreciated.

I have thought about this before and realised I could not verbally convey why it is such fun. There's just something inherently cool about seeing the heli in the air, the sound of the blades, etc.

And, Trillian, knowing you are (nominally) in control of the heli.

Martin, nice flying, mate. Brilliant when you have a day like that.

I've just come back from the field, only managed 3 flights, cos there were people there! Flying planes! On my private helipad! Well, that's how it normally is.

Had a good time, talking to the guys. I managed a few lazy 8s, and TWO circuits. Second one, I lost orientation cos of the sun, but due to the advice on this forum, I didn't panic, sorted it out, and completed my flight.

When it goes well, there's no better hobby!

Good stuff Martin, was great to see you even if I didnt get a flight myself. You certainly seemed to fly far more than anyone else today... will have to change that next weekend!

As you get more confident then you will naturally bring the tail around more to make the 8 shape... no point rushing things until you are happy where you are though looking good IMHO.

Good to see you too Rob (and the Rob and Robess juniors). Very well behaved children you have there - they are a credit to you both!

Thanks for your kind words. As you say, there appeared to be more chat than airtime today eh?

And Brian - next time you head to the field, take your shotgun and say "Get orff my land!"

Glad you had fun Andy. Twas a little too windy at my field today. I did give it a go but it was just being swept away.

Yup, only in America - saying that though it does look fun not sure they would go for it at Bisley though

I'm not sure they would, Rob. I've stayed there a few times. They used to run a B&B and I used it a few times when I first took my current job and before I moved down.

Nothing like a small-arms fire wake up call of a morning.

Indeed. For me the need to concentrate is also very useful because over the years of working in the computer and online environment my ability to concentrate has suffered, so it does me alot of good to be away from the computer AND having to really focus on flying the heli.
