  • Special offers!

I'm probably going to be very unpopular because of this post but it's not really a gripe, more of survey of opinions.

Correct me if I'm out of order but all of a sudden we seem to have an advertiser posting raffles and special offers all over the forum. Now I have participated in the raffle and as a one off it was a fun way of possibly getting a heli at negligable cost but now we seem to be getting special offers for other items and it worries me that this could become the norm.
What's to stop other retailers from posting their special offers on the forum and flooding the place with what would basically be 'Spam'. Again I could be wrong but if you add up the offers on the other retailers websites who pay to advertise on here it runs into the hundreds.
So the question is,are we going to have to trawl through a few hundred pages to get to the ordinary members posts or are there already guidelines in place to stop this.
I wish the shop in question well as I would any heli retailer but is this the start of something larger and do we really want it!

I'm not looking to upset anyone in particular,I would just like to know what my fellow addicts think

everyone likes to save a buck, I know I do. I think the sponsors should have the right to post advertisements and offers if they are paying for it

As long as the offers are in the appropriate place then I dont have a problem with it.

It might be nice to be able to select what forum sections are searched when you click the "whats new" button.
If you could select individal sections of interest in your user CP we would have the option to block out the retailers sections, or the bad jokes section if we didnt want to see those posts.

      Possible Stuart?

You are entitled to your opinion just like the rest of us

I personally have no prob,if I dont like what I see I dont look or click on it simple really.

But if I were an advertiser and payed for it then I would do it too and no doubt all of the rest of you would

Are you mad? You wan't Heli Addict sponsors to stop posting special offers on heli equipment for RC Heli Addict members on RC Heli Addict forums?

Eh? Right sending some men in white coats to wigan

That was in jest - but on a more serious note - nothing posted on these forums is spam because you have the ability to decide whether to actually click on the thread , or not. It's called choice, and if more people excercised it in a sensible manner the world would be a better place!!!

If you want to see what real spam is post your email address oin clear text

Advertisers have the right to post, ideally it should only be in there own forum topics of interest that relate to there store. So if they've got a special offer, some news, new product or taking part in an event fine.

But ALL advertisers know that this meant as a means of keeping there content in one place and it should NOT be used to generate offer after offer.

The Adverts they have control of are meant to do the selling for them.

My opinion is that its forum first always - a great believer that if advertisers support and talk with there customers and build a working relationship this will earn a far better return and loyalty than just chucking up posts.

Posts should always have worthwhile and relevant content.

Now NON-advertisers can take part in the forum in so much as forum first - any spamming or posts that just blatently are pushing themselves I would like members when possible to use the "Report a Post" button. If done and justly then it will be removed by either me or a moderator - no issue with that....

The Advertisers deserve the upper hand as there putting there hard earned cash to help the site develop.

                I don't think I'm mad....but you never know!

I too think special offers are a good thing,it's just that I can see the guys at Midland,Fastlad,Hobby hanger typing away and before you know it...5 pages of special offer threads.
I was just thinking it may have been wise to have a separate area for want of a better word for this type of post.At the moment I don't have a choice as they are posts in the main forum and although I like offers I can see the advertisers thinking...Good for the Goose..and all that. Before you know it Heliaddicts has turned into channel 5

You just have to look at the top of the page and the usual suspects are there in nice big banners. I think the new fledgling companies have to do something to grab your attention, Fastlad, Midlands etc have all done that through their fantastic service over the years. The likes of RC heli spares and AVA hobbies have to do something to build their business that's done by offering something cheaper than the others. I know what you mean but the last thing Fastlad need to do is offer things at cut price, special this or that they don't need to do it. I think your fears of it turning into 10 pages of special offers are fairly low. I say good luck to the little fish maybe the big fish will take note and be a bit keener in offering the same sort of deals. The hobby and all of us are the beneficiaries after all.

I would rather see posts about offers than some of the rubbish that gets posted on here. I want to see heli related info on here, not what someone had for tea last night
