  • Which Scorpion for mixed 5S/6S flying ?

    Hi
I had a Scorpion 3026/1900 installed which seized today due bearing failure.
Setup was on 14T pinion with Jazz80 ESC, 5S ZippyH 3300.
    (150 flights)

I would like to buy another Scorpion, but this time I will also use
6S Turnigy 30C Packs on the bird, to fly them alongside my 5S Zippys.

    Question:
Shall I go for the 3026-1900 again or is the /1600 the better choice for
mixed flying ? Long term I will increase my 6S stock, so maybe the 1600 is
    the better choice?
5S and 6S setups require different hardware, I know, but as changing
the pinion is annoying me (on the airfield) I would rather make a compromise
and sort it out via the motor, knowing that I say goodbye to "ultimate"
performance.... That is ok for me. The pinion should be the same!

Hence my question: 3026/1900 or 3026/1600 for the most "universal" setup.

    Pinion 14T ?

Which one would you recommend ?

    Thnx

I think you will find it difficult to run it efficiently on both 5S and 6S without swapping the pinion.
Is your 1900 a writeoff? you can get a bearing kit for it.

Sorry, it is for a Trex500.

The bearing of my /1900 has failed and the magnets have
had considerable contact with the case, so I better replace
        the stuff...

you can't drop from 6S to 5S on any of those motors and not have to do a pinion change, sorry.
1600 is less critical to the 1900 in this regard but it still isn;t going to work unless you run a crazy throttle curve for 6S and an oversized pinion......but then the ESC is going to get pretty damn hot.

Just ordered a 1600 and going to run it in the 13T pinion i use currently on the stock motor. Running Outrage 3000mah 25c 6S packs.

Hoping this will give marked improvements over standard without it being too crazy!

Ash - Would you say this is the right pinion to use with this set up mate?

I know I'm not Ashley, but I'm running my 1600 on a 13t, and it seems spot on to me. Running 90% in normal, 95% straight line in idleup 1, and 100% in idleup 2. HTH

Thanks, I will go for the 1600 then and see how it works.

The 13T will be perfect for 6S, but too small for 5S,
so I go for 14T initially and reduce 6S RPM via Throttlekurve,
the Jazz80 I use should be capable for that.

The 5S will have less punch with the /1600, but should still
be enough for basic aerobatics etc, at least that´s what I hope....

how about some proper motor instead that doesn't burn half of your expensively bought LiPo capacity as heat? Neu, X-Era, ...
PS and doesn't need regular oiling of the bearings...
