  • New 50 For Me

I'm in the market for a new 50 size heli. I've already got all the gear to go in it - Hyper engine, pipe, Spartan gyro, all servos, governor, regulator, main blades, tail blades etc etc.

All I need is an airframe - and it needs to be something I haven't tried before.

So far, in the 50 stakes, I've had in no particular order:

    TRex 600 pro
    Knight 3D
    Sceadu Evo
    JR Airskipper
    JR Vibe

So for something different, I'm thinking maybe.....

    Sceadu SDX
    Raptor Titan SE
    Others?

I'm definitely leaning towards the SDX at the moment, based on the many years of excellent trouble-free service that my old Evo gave me, but am open to suggestions, and am pretty much ready to buy now (it's my birthday next month!) rather than wait for some new stuff to come along.

    Any thoughts?

I'd like to say Outrage velocity Steve but i don't think it's what your after in terms of flying style etc. but it does look a nice machine.

the upcoming..... will it.. won't it N50 sound ideal but..... when's it out!!!!

there is an import new JR 50 class too mate but big bucks and spares could be an issue.

    Nothing else out really mate!

      Is there?

Do you mean the Airskipper 2 which is just a Vibe 50 with a belt drive tail? If it is the there's no point me going there really.

Just because I've got all the stuff including the engine. I've had two 50s for quite a while up until a few months ago when I swapped my Knight airframe for an almost complete Beam, but kept most of the gear from the 50.

At the moment, I have one 30 (JR Voyager), one 50 (JR Vibe) and one 90 (also a JR Vibe!), so all my IC helis are JR. Nothing wrong with that, just need an airframe to put my 2nd 50 back on the flight line.

If your keen to press the button, i would say the Velocity is a serious option. It's new so there are teething probs but the second batch have the revised parts included. It looks great, nice build quality and is light and agile from what ive seen/heard.

            Something different Steve!?

I'd say go hirobo because of its new programable head and your style flying it's also problem free more or less unlike the velicioty 50 which still has part issues....

If you want a less problomatic machine the SDX 50 Wins on all counts....

I am finalising my SDX build and have to say the tail is nicer than the Sceadu. Hirobo have made it so you get quite alot more right rudder than you get with the Sceadu. You will of course get the SWM version which allows all the electronics to be mounted up front. The only wires that won't be on the servo tray is those to the governor sensor. There is a purpose built position for a mixture servo as well.

You won't have things falling off the swash. The one way bearing won't lock up. The standard drive train can be noisy as you know from the Sceadu but you can get delrin gears. The main frames have been beefed up. The swash layout can be set to 135 like the Vibe. It doesn't have screws made of cheese or parts made of metal that can't hold a thread. You might need to order the hardened drag bolts for the main blades as the original part does bend. RunRyder - Hirobo SDX SDX flaw? - Page 1

Most flying styles should be settable RunRyder - So what do all those holes on my rotor head adjust???? - Page 1

Ask electricsceadu for his comments on how it flys.

How about an Airskipper for a scale project?

I know where there is one with loads of spares and the guy that owns it, whilst a bit of a shark, might be persuaded to part with it for very little

I know I am going to get slated and flamed for this, but I don't really care - What about a Raptor 50 Titan SE?

I have just picked up a Raptor 50SE combo from Modelshop Leeds for a VERY good price. I figured that in no way was my flying improving due to having lots of shiny metal and blingy carbon to break, so I have gone back to basics. The Raptor is such a simple basic design, easy to work on (except main & starter shaft bearing replacement) and has a nice low parts count.

I know that a Raptor will not limit my flying capabilities, and I bet the same could be said for 90% of people on this forum.... right flame away
                          Cheers Russ

                              Steve,

If it was my money I'd go with the SDX...

                              1) The Raptor is all well and good but it is a bit of an old design now and is starting to show it's age in some areas.

                              2) The newer machines still seem to be having some teething troubles.

                              3) You have a fleet of JR's.

                              4) The Aurora 50 and N50 are probably months away.

                              5) Trex..bah..

Hirobo make some fantastic quality and well engineered stuff. It's certainly the sensible choice as you're used to JR machines.

ORRRR... here's a left field choice..

A Caliber 6?... Very good price.. good quality model that will probably suit your flying perfectly.. also a bit different to the usual?..

                              Cheers

                              Mark
