mostly not needed. I use optifuel 30 and never use it. Depending on fuel used maybe?!!
I used to use 'Redex' on my fourstrokes back in the day.

I do if I know that I'm not going to run an engine for more than a month or so. I did leave an OS50 hyper for a year without after-run oil. It had been run dry and kept indoors, but on inspection it was in a very poor state. There was rust on the crank and the bearings were totally shot.

There is many views on this. Some do, some don't. Those against it says that even with afterrun oil in the engine, the bearings will still rust. Others will argue that just use a good quality fuel because it will include rust inhibitors in the oil.

I don't use afterrun oil but my own 50/50 mix of Marvel air tool oil and ATF (transmission fluid). Works great... Unfortunately this will not guarantee that bearings last for ever. Changing bearings should be part of your maintenance regime.

For long term storage I add about a spoon full of my 50/50 mix of Marvel and ATF for piece of mind.
