  • Well I crashed my blade

Well I'm back from my holiday and feel refreshed, I got over ten flights in during the holiday but on the last had a bad crash, I was hovering at about twenty feet in very calm conditions and thought ok lets try inverted so I got her upside down just as out of now where a big gust of wind caught her, then I screwed the controls up and she had a fight with a tree and lost.

But I'm ok about it I enjoyed the flights I had with her, here is a pic after the crash.

So what now well now I'm back strip her down and order some new parts and get her back up there

That's exactly the right attitude. Sorry you decked it, but it happens to us all. The main thing is to get back flying ASAP.

We use the same main blades!! how do you find them?
What did you make the red tips of your blades and paddles with? I like the idea of that.

The blades where sent to me by another forum member who I think gets them from Japan or China, I used to make airfix, revell kits etc so I have lots of stuff for painting kits. I used gloss red revell paint and some tamiya masking tape to get a straight and level edge on the paddles then balanced them using a little red paint on the lighter paddle as for the tail rotors I used gloss black revell paint and white matt for the tips then coated over tips in red gloss then using very fine modelling sand paper to bring out the white effect on the tips.

I used gloss paint as matt will cause friction with the air, after I had finished the paint work I did a little sanding on the paddles and rotors to make them smooth.

Here's some pics showing the white tip effect on the tail rotor

Stipped it down last night and heres the damage and whats needed:

3x gear servos sets, main gear, tail boom, paddle shaft, main shaft, feather shaft, tail rotor shaft and some new blades

I was in idle up when I crashed in to the tree, I hit throttle hold after about five seconds so I will have to check the esc, I was bit unsure what had happerned at first, when it became clear my first thought was not I have crashed but how do I get my pride and joy down out of the tree when it is at about twenty feet up. Of course I was thinking it might start to rain and was thinking it is still powered up but I got it down.

Not to bad for a fight with a tree, what a total I am

                    Heres a couple of pics

Over water that would have added to the bum puckering moment, Looking back it was funny with myself, my wife and two children all trying to get it down. I climbed up the tree but the heli was tangled in a few small branches that where hanging over my car.

To behonest I expected damage but did not expect a tail boom strike but thinking about it at the speed she went it to the tree I'm lucky.

Well I replaced all the parts on Blade and on its first bench test I noticed that the swash plate has a wobble to it, after a good inspection it seems two of the ball links have been bent so I will order some more and a new swash plate.

I will keep you all updated.
