well that's torn it.. quite literally.

Joint's gone back in ok but I have ruptured the ligament in my thumb so I'm going for an op tomorrow to have it re-attached then 2 weeks in a proper cast followed by another 2 or 3 weeks in a polycarbonate moulded cast with physio in between.

Probably 6 to 8 weeks before I have fully strength and mobility back...

      great..

shouldn't even have been there but the kids school was closed for an extra 2 days so I had to take a day off to cover it and this happens..

and I can't even get ****ed cause of the pain killers and I need to be good for the op tomorrow. Oh and I can't eat anything after 10pm tonight until I've had my op sometime tomorrow morning....

Ouch sorry to hear that Martyn.
                Hope it heals soon.
I fell over ice skating once.
chasing my daughter round like I was a teenager.
Feet went one way knees & torso the other,
put my knee right up into my ribs.
Outcome was 2 broken ribs & a fortnight off work
Moral of the story is, dont ice skate, it's for children

Sorry to hear this. Having introduced my middle finger to a high speed router blade 4 weeks ago I know where you are at! It is amazing how dibilitating an accident to a digit can be in so many ways.

                  Good luck and mend quickly!

Best policy when going to the ice rink is do as I did.

Stay in the seated area watching.

                        Get well soon.

I broke two ribs the last time I went ice skating. Dangerous places those rinks.

Right hand too I note? No five-knuckle shuffle for you for a while then. Have to get the missus involved eh?

An op on a Sunday too eh? Did ya go private, or have the NHS come up trumps?

bad luck dude, hope you heal up soon.

i did similar at work, i was delivering timber to B & Q one evening when i fell off my trailer after the strap i was pulling on snapped, fell backwards onto the ground & put left hand out to break my fall, felt funny, but didn't hurt at the time, just felt numb, when i looked at it the top half of the thumb was straight but moved sideways, bit like steps ? the B & Q staff were brilliant, took me to hospital & fetched me back, even closed the curtains on my trailer ! the hospital A & E staff were great too, i was in & out in a hour, x-ray then the treatment, which basically consisted of gas & reset ! then it bloody hurt ! they strapped it up too. it was only my work that let me done, they refused to send anybody to pick me up, so left hand somewhat disabled i had to drive my truck back to the yard, with a slap across gearbox ( which is on the left !) which hurt my hand like hell !
this happened on a thursday, i was due to go on holiday on the saturday, bloody typical something like that happens before a holiday ! needless to say work gave me friday night off ! lol.
its true though, we take our use of our digits for granted & don't realise how awkward simple things become to do when injured. my thumb healed in time, buts never quite been the same, i,ve got about 95% movement still, 5 years on !

l keep looking at that first pic and the middle two fingers look more out of shape than the thumb.

Thanks everyone for your kind words..

Had the op today curtesy of the lovely NHS (who I cannot fault one bit from start to finish) and the final verdict was that I did not repture the tendon it actually broke the bone off that the tendon was attached to..

so dislocation and a broken bone in the thumb...

feel like crap now after the GA but had a good feed and now to bed until I wake up sometime tomorrow. No work for a couple of days at least.. just 4 to 6 weeks in plaster..............
