Can any one advise on the best silencer for a raptor 30 v2, to try and get the noise down a bit.
At the moment i have a tt39 with a stock silencer.

Why get the noise level down?

With a basic T.T Silencer your not even at 80db for sure unless your engine is rough as $£%$$.

Most clubs haver a noise limit of 82db and the T.T silencer is ample to get you under that.

Even my Predator Gasser is at 82db and trust me a Raptor 30 is quiet compared to that big thing sat there in the hover.

I have a Zimmerman & hover in the garden occasionally...quiet enough not to annoy the neighbours too much. The stock silencer was much noisier & the engine runs better now too.

            Happy flying

Never tried anything else. Only had the two.

When I started going to the field to learn the guys there turned their noses up at the stock silencer and sort of 'insisted' that I bought a better one - -locals to keep happy.

Zimmerman was recommended by most so I took their advice. Cost about £60 and has been a good buy in my eyes.

There are much better qualified fliers on this site than me, so I'm sure the best advice is still to come, but that's my tenpennyworth.

                Happy flying

You won't go wrong with a zimmerman pipe on a .30 engine!

There are several choices when it comes to mufflers, yes, the zimmerman ones are very good and quiet too. They come in two forms, the traditional can type single piece muffler, and the 2 piece quiet pipe. This relies on you also getting a manifold, teflon joiner, pipe clamp to secure the pipe to the boom and a set of spring clamps to attach the teflon joiner to both the header and the pipe.

I have the 2 piece quiet pipe setup on 5 of my 6 raptors, the other one has a can type single piece zimmerman muffler.

There are also a few other options, these include the newer and quiter version of Curtis Youngblood's Muscle pipe 2, which is a cross between a single piece muffler and a tuned pipe. It takes the form of a single piece muffler and when coupled to something like an OS37 makes for a very powerful, smooth and qiuet running engine.

Hitori also do a few mufflers and some pipes too, the most popular one a few years ago in 30 class was the 2 piece hitori tuned pipe, which is reasonably quiet and good at getting the best performance out of a 30 size engine. More recently they have introduced a range of nice single piece mufflers, which again are quiet and as in the case of most mufflers, make engine tuning that little bit easier.

There are also of course the Thunder Tiger mufflers, the deluxe one is quite nice and pretty quiet too, so there are a number of options, any one of which is a good bet.

Certainly the most popular ones around at the moment are the zimmerman ones, most model shops carry them in stock so they are easily obtainable, they also come up from time to time on the second hand market either on ebay or in the BMFA classifieds.

                        Cheers,
                        Pete.

The Muscle Pipe on my OS37 is very noisy in the hover at 18,000 rpm engine speed.

Don't get me wrong - it performs well, but it's loud and high pitched.

My experience leads me towards Zimmermanns for quietness, and pretty good performance as well.

Is that MP2 you have one of the newer quieter ones or one of the older ones which did have less baffling in and were therefore louder?

I know even the new ones had a "distinctive" sound to them but I didnt think they were that loud.

aggreed if you want power the MP2 is the daddy. If you want something so quiet you can barely hear it idle then get the zimmy.
