  • Just a minor complaint

Some time ago l moanded about threads being closed because the OP felt they were loosing the debate. Some people felt guilty and took it personally and it kicked off a bit. Anyway it ended up as a poll and my side if you like was well and truly beaten. l have no problem with that although l still dont agree l dont complain anymore.
    So here`s my new gripe.
Last night a Whole thread, maybe 10 pages of it gets closed (fair enough) but then totally deleted. All trace of it. How can that be a benifit to anyone. Unless of cause l just cant find it.

Its not deleted... Stuart, Tony or myself never delete any thread. I could bring it back right now trust me. Its just out of public view.

Because the originator requested it to be. We never do anything off or own back unless its going to damage the forum in some way (but that would have to be something crazy). Again ill use the good old RMS example.

Yup l see him request it but l dont see that as a good enough reason on its own, like l said by all means close it, he could have done that anyway if he new how. l just dont remember anything on there that would damage this forum in any way. l`ve taken a beating or two on here as you know but l didn`t come crying to you guys for help did l?

Yeh thats all fair enough but the rule is (and you know yourself from last time), if the originator wants it removed then it gets removed. Simple as that. Pointless kinda arguing against really mate because we will just end up going round in circles like last time. Your right though it wasnt damaging to the forum at all and i would have left it if i hadnt been asked to remove it by the originator. Also just a reminder that we never make a decision by ourselves. I just so happened to be physically speaking with Stuart on the mic over messenger (he was building his Velocity and on webcam). So a double decision along with a request to remove is good enough for me anyways. Genuinely sorry if you have a problem with that but its always been the same and we not going to change it for one or a few people. Things go on the majority round here mostly i rekon. Makes sense to do that unfortunately.

Tosh, maybe you should "clear your deck " first, and go apologise to Mark Christy in the World Championship thread. While what you said may be an appropriate opinion to hold and state, the issue is where you said it was NOT appropriate. Please have the balls to say the little word "sorry".

Having said the above, I'm inclined to agree with Tosh on the matter of making threads "invisible". Another well known (and hated, by some of us) forum uses deletions as a tactic to "change history", because you can no longer see a thread, it obviously never happened !. I know the thread in question hasn't been deleted, but the effect is exactly the same.

I assume the thread is the TimmyB one ?, if so, then TimmyB has to accept his "mistake", grow up, and live with it.

Why does it always persist down at weekends ?

                      Ok Lee
l didn`t realise that it was a rule that he could have the whole thread removed. That answers my question, thankyou.

Well if you make a thread and then go delete your first post it disappears anyways. Only thing is you have to do it in a time frame... ie 24 - 48 hours or something. Then things are permanently deleted. Like i say i could bring that whole thread back right now. It would only fizzle away into the depths of the forum anyways in probably less than 30 minutes. So dont see what the big deal is.
