  • Glow in the dark tail blades

Hi guys... just purchased the following K&B night tail blades to go on my night rig on the 600E:-

    Fast Lad Performance

Im wondering if anyone is using them? How they have the UV LED connected up and to what? Also as to where abouts on the helicopter? I know it says to have the UV led pointing at the tips of the blades but just wondering how everyone else is mounting it? Im thinking a tie wrap and maybe a small blob of hot glue.
    Thanks

Power it from the same battery that powering the rope lights and if you want to be neat drill a hole in the fin and glue it in.

Yeh but will the 7.4v be enough for it? Im using a 2S 800mah FP pack for 3 x 1.5m rope lights. It says 12v on the packet of the blades. Im guessing ill have to use a small 3S pack instead to run them all.

I attached the LED (on a 450, not 600) to a spare boom servo mount, driving it from an 800 mAh 3s pack.

you can see them here live.

            Lee.

Your gonna laugh at this but.!!!!!!

Jamie told me to put the blades into a black box with the high density LCD inside with it and the blades hold the light for at least 2 flights.

You can **** your pants laughing now mate.

It may work, Havent tried it yet.

Sorry, been out. You can run the LED at 2S no problem. I set mine up with 6 strings and the tail blades, plenty of light. I tried this set up with a 2S 800mah and it worked a treat.

there has been some discussion about the UV led shinining your eyes.
Wearing some eye protection is a good idea (re- justin Chi's dad) but maybe some 100% UV plain glasses would be good for these at night.

Alternatively setup the LED orientation and avoid lengthy hovers with it pointing toward you.

Robgt used some of these blades on his 450 and claimed he could get 2 flights worth "charging " them with his car head lights?

I'd be very interested to know how long they really do last with the led off!

By the way, I don't see why the LED has to charge them in a black box. Just wave the LED at them

i think id just sit them in a light for a bit before flying, saves running any more cables down the boom and mounting that led.
