  • Bad day / good day

It's been a while since we had a fly with most of our heli's but given today was a day off and there was only a little wind, we thought we'd give the 450's a fly.

First off was the Twister Storm, now the first flight was uneventful, just some lazy 8's to get the feel back.
Change the battery after a suitable cool down period and the motor seemed to take a long time spinning up to full power. Looks like the motor is on it's way out and the boom keeps slipping, tail isn't quite so locked in and you could here the belt rubbing. OK, stop with the Twister and fly something else.

Try the old T-Rex XL, couldn't find the programme on her Hitec, isn't on my TX, much head scratching to then realise it's actually on the daughter's TX. Oh bother re-programme something on her Hitec (The one we took to the field). Disconnect the motor and set it up so I thought, until I snapped one of the motor wires disconnecting it. FFS. OK that's not gonna fly. Next.

Get out the old reliable 450S, Spins up, takes off, Align fake carbons have decided to track a mile off and it sounded like it had a severe dose of wind.
Bollocks..not flying that, history tells me that once the Align fake carbons have decided to track badly, your forever chasing the tracking.

Packed up, went home. Charged 3 batteries for her 500 and 1 for my 600 whilst fixing the problems with the 450's.

Twister well thats a motor replace...no worries. Checked and reset the pitch range while I was on just in case it was bogging...it wasn't.
Has anybody got any bolts / screws that will bolt the frame tighter round the boom clamp on the Twister, I haven't got anything long enough.

Resoldered the XL connections...no worries, gave it a little hover in the garden, massively twitchy...reversed expo on the daughter's TX, christ knows how she flies it like that.

Changed the Align fake carbons to 335mm Pro's on the 450S and with 1 turn on a link, tracks perfect.

By this time the batteries are charged so off we go again with the 500 and 600...sod the 450's they've annoyed me intensely by this time.

500 time...I get a go first on her machine just to check it out, running 5S and 15T gives it plenty of head speed and after I've chucked it about for the allotted 5 minutes all is well.

600 time...let the 500 cool. Flying 2 crashes high bolloxed up a loop, still getting used to the 9XII and fed in some rudder it seems...opened the taps and scared the bejesus out of the camera woman with the rotor whop. Ascended to a bum hole stabilising height and continued without incident for the remaining time.

Back to the 500 and she ran 2 further batteries through it without major incident apart from a slightly heavy landing that took a chunk out of one of the tail rotors.

Just needed to get this off my chest...funny day indeed.

Some pics...of those that flew lol
