  • Royal Mail - I'm impressed !

Now maybe I'm just behind the times !, but tonight I discovered a Royal Mail service I wasn't aware of. . . . . you can buy postage online, for immediate use.

Basically you give them the letter details, size and weight, choose the service you want, from that it calculates the cost. You then enter the address you want to send it to, sender address if required, and finally the payment details (i.e. Credit card number etc). It then generates a PFD that you can print once to your PC's printer, which you then stick to your envelope, you have 24hrs to physically post the letter/package.

    Here's the URL

Why does it always persist down at weekends ?

It's a cunning way of not needing the smaller post offices that are being shut every day. Less stamps and mail being posted means there is no need for them.

Had a long lecture from our post mistress when I asked her to post a prepaid parcel

I have to agree with the post mistress on this one,as I supply goods to post offices/newsagents/convenience stores & with the post office shutting a lot of the village post offices I lost a fair few accounts plus a fair few villages lost there center for all the gossip(not sure if this is a good or bad thing)

I dont use this even though I post out 5 - 10 items 6 days a week. All done from 2 local village post offices. All my items get a proof of posting just in case they go awol without this you have no cover for lost items - and its quite amasing the number that do go missing.
I say support them or lose them, we had to fight to keep my most local one a couple of years back...

Whilst I agree with supporting the countryside Post Offices, I DON'T agree with supporting the my local PO, which is in a suburban area, and is a s**thole, run by uncaring, rude and downright miserable people, who seem to take pleasure in making sure the queue of customers is kept as long a possible.

Do I really want to waste my whole lunch hour, queuing for stamps. . . . I think not!

Me too. Although at the moment my printer is ready for the bin, so would need to get that sorted first but it sounds like a convenient thing.

The post office in the town where I work (Woking) is terrible - they closed the dedicated PO a year or so ago and moved it to the basement of WHSmith. With this 'efficiency drive' came massive queues due to half the number of positions. I dont bother with it anymore and use the village ones instead - good for them and my blood pressure
