Thanks Eddie - I don't recall seeing it ... it is the Internet fraud bit I thought needed our attention.

Having said that, I do feel sorry for Sy and loss of his business. Hope he can get out of this mess and restarts.

I don't know the shop or the people running it, But this sort of closure due to fraud is happening a lot and there is very little we can do to stop it, It's very saddening that the banks won't help out as it's "there" credit cards that a causing the problem.
I wish the guys all the best and hope they can start again sometime.

Without specific reference to the shop in question, there are things you can do as a retailer to reduce/eliminate the problem.

You can implement 3DSecure and similar systems then only accept online transactions from those who complete the verification process.

The downside is that you may be unable to accept orders from some customers as a result, but the upside is that if an order is completed and verified then there is a considerably lower risk of the transaction getting reversed as the card companies consider this a problem for the card holder not the retailer.

Of course a lot of retailers prefer not to do this as it limits the cards that their customers can use and acts as a barrier to taking some orders, but then there are some orders you really don't want to take ...
