Lipoe's on starter

Hi all got a 12v starter can i strap a lipo to the side of it, if so what's the best lipo to use.

For an OS 50, i used a Maxpoly 3s 2200mAh and it would turn over just fine.

l use a 4s 2p 4amp on mine. Starts anything.

I used to strap a 3S 1800 mAh lipo to mine and it used to work fine to start my 50.. Upgraded to a 4S 4000 mAh and it works even better..

Hi just made up a wiring harness have now connected 2 x3cell2100mah lipo's, works great.

two wasted T-Rex 450 packs in series (6s in total), on a Dynatron starter.

The "worst case" is a starter that's too weak and blocks completely. Then the current through a single pad on the commutator increases dramatically and it overheats.
If in doubt, use higher voltage to prevent it from blocking in the first place.

If you are using a dynatron, get a cheep 5S lipo from HK, got mine working on a 2800mah, lasts forever and is small and light, just strapped onto the side.
Becarefull of running 6S through a 12v starter, will blow it up

I use a 3 cell (11.1v) 2200mah lipo of unknown make and it starts my TT39 no trouble and lasts for ages too.

I would use a 4 cell (13.7v) at the very most on a 12v starter, anymore than that and you'd risk frying the starter IMO..

martyn is that the lipo i sent you , is it holding up ok? if so its the standard battery you get with a gl450se

I'm using the cheap Robbe Heavy Duty starter with a 4S 3700 lipo thats around 3 years old strapped to it and it starts anything plus it's a lot cheaper than a Sullivan starter, having said that, if I have to buy another starter in the future it will more than likely be a Sullivan

I've been using a couple of 3s 2200mAh Tornado packs in a parallel setup, turns over a 90 easy.

Guys I have a Sullivan starter and am looking to do exactly the same thing with mine as Derrick. I have a spare Maxploy 5s 4000mh do you think that should be ok to use to power a 90 engine?

Benjy that will be more than enough. I run an old 2500mah 4S Flightpower pack and it turns over my 90 fine.
I did used to run 6s but then you run the danger of buggering up an engine if it's been flooded.
