  • Hudy Hex Drivers

    Hi all,

I am about to order a set of hudy drivers as I am sick of going through cheaper sets, so may as well just get a quality set and never worry about them again.

I have a question on sizes. Am I correct in thinking I need 1.5, 2.0, 2.5 and 3.0mm or would a 4.0mm come in handy as well?

    Thanks
    sigpic

    Hi Richard

I have the Align set that mirror the sizes you state. I cannot recall needing a 4mm during my 600 build so I'm unsure if you'll benefit from having it.

But hey, no ill stock tho.

EDIT: the only time I used a 4mm was as a flybar lock when doing my blade pitches. However I needed a standard key - a driver would not fit I don't think.

Cheers Martin. I could never recall using a 4.0mm either but wanted to make sure.

You've not needed one for your MD-530?

Best get one ordered then eh?

I do find tho that, the larger the driver, the less likely the cheapo ones are to round off. If it's loadsa money you may be as well to stick with the one you have?

Mind you, ya can't beat quality tools. I had a whole box of Snap-on stuff, until some scumbag nicked it all from my folks house some years ago.

              Indeed Martin.

May as well order the 4.0mm then got a full set.

Ouch - Was you covered for your snap-on kit?

Thankfully my parents household insurance covered it. The box was not a huge one but, when adding up the costs for what was essentially a couple of socket sets (1/4 and 3/8" drive) and a few other bits and bobs, the bill came to the best part of £1500!

I have always found the set which FL sell which uses the HSS replaceable bits to be great, any evidence of wear and its only 2 quid to replace. They certainly out last the bolts they are used on.

If you get a 90 size heli you will also need the 4mm driver as it tends to be used on the blade grip bolts and engine mounts.

                      Cheers,
