  • FPV Systems?

    Anyone use an FPV system?

Which heli is good and on what setup, to give a good flight time? Which TX/RX Combo works well for distance?

After seeing a few on YouTube it has really caught my interest and would like to look into it more.

The main thing is having a buddy lead set up so while flying if they see an issue you cannot they take back control of the model.

I'd quite like to put on in a piper cub that could be flown about and then people could wear the glass's to see what the view is like from the piper cub. Why a Piper cub ? Because they fly smooth and slow not tearing about the sky like most idots

Seen a few on EasyStars which are nice, slow and steady flying. They look good fun but I think I'd lean more toward a Heli as this is where my main interest is.

Have been doing some little tests with the Spektrum RXs.... 6100E doesnt go far haha. Need to try a 6200 or another full range one now.

Found this piece of kit that goes through trainer port of TX and gives you a 50Km range for the radio!!!

I think you'd run into some serious legal issues if you where flying out of eyesight of the field and you crashed. Not even sure if your insurance would be valid if flying within the boundaries of the flying field without a 'buddy' connected up.

No I don't even think the TX system mentioned is legal in the UK.. But still, very impressive kit.

You've not seen the size of the field I fly in either 6100E goes out of range, thats how big it is.

I'm not part of a club either, the field is private and plenty to explore with FPV

Anyway this wasn't a post about the leagility of it... But I did expect a few 'hobby police' to pop on hehe

Don't mark me down as 'Hobby police' Jerome, Please!

I think it's a great new side of the hobby that I'd like to try myself one day.

I reckon the bigger the better if your gonna use a heli, but have seen an FPV video of someone using a Rex450. Personally I think a plane is the better option, for a nice smooth flight/video. There's a great video on this site, along with some nice equipment. This side of the hobby is recognised by the BMFA and so long as you buddy up then your insurance covers you.

                Hi,

New to this site and saw your thing about a Cub. I`m on your side here having a big Cub myself which will be fpv`d soon.

I don`t fly h`s (yet) but have some other big models to fpv (and a very special project on the go) when I can link up with someone reasonably local to guide me. I`m in Kirkby In Ashfield, Notts., technically inept but with bags of enthusiasm.

                Cheers.
