  • Leaking header tank.

    So, here's something I wasn't expecting.

Fuelling up my heli last time, I had nitro start to leak out of the bung in my Thunder Tiger header tank. After I removed the bung from the exhaust to let air out (!), it still leaks, but nowhere near as bad. The grommet does seem loose, so I can completely see why it's leaking.

Does anyone know if the TT header tank grommets are available seperately? Anything I can seal it with in the meantime? PTFE tape?! Does anyone know what I might have done wrong to mess it up? I always flush the tanks with clean fuel before storage.

    Thanks, Neil

I've found that most header tanks including the TT ones and some well known expensive ones leak around the bung at some point or other in their life. I just put a bit of plumber's silicone sealant around the bung when I put it in nowadays - sorts it out a treat.

      Silicone sealant
Make a good job of it though and let it dry out thoroughly too or youll end up with bits of silicone going through ya pipes and clogging up the filter if your using one This will make your engine run lean (not what you want at all).

Is there anything silicone sealant can't do

Seriously, I was worried about the nitro eating it, and then making a nasty mess of the engine. Thanks to both for the tip. Just to clarify: the sealant should be squirted between the grommet and the tank? I guess so, I can't think where else you'd stick it!

Do you know if this is this likely to happen to the main tank bung at some point, or if not, why not?

        Tanks, Neil.

          Tanks, Neil.
Never known it to happen much on a raptor tank unless you are constantly pulling it in and out and the edges of the tank wear. Had it happen to me recently on a Trex 700 though. Fixed it the same way i described in my last post.
