  • Lucky escape...

Had a close call today and my first mechanical failure. I've just finished rebuilding the raptor and had just started it up for the first time. Sat on the field with the motor running and got to about 50% throttle just reaching for the idle up switch and

.... bang ..... WTF..... tail bouncing all over the place....

hit throttle hold and as the rotors slow down only one tail blade is on the back, tail grip, blade, bearings and half the pitch control arm all gone...

Looking at it it looks like the pin that secures the hub to the shaft and has the nut on retaining the bearings has failed. No idea where the bits went but I guess it could have been alot worse if I'd actually been in the air..

    more rebuilding required...

    cheers

Bummer. Still, don't sound like too expensive a fix eh?
      Martin

Most of the Aligns, fair few Spektrum bits, bunch of Align & HiTec servos, OBE, VD & Bar.

The stock hubs are prone to this. Get the Quick UK one.

Under £30 so not to bad compared to what it could have been had I been airborn....

          Are they ?

I've ordered standard parts for now as I have no idea how old or how many times this one has been apart and with new parts and new nylock nuts I should be ok for a while.

I will keep an eye out for upgraded parts.

          cheers

My lucky escape Today with my Vibe 50....

My Vibe 50 has Align Servo's in it. Heard the Stories the case's crack and break.... Now note I am NOT a 3D flyer so just sports flying and gentle circuits.

and the Lugs left behind in place!!!

Now new Case or Replace the LOT ????????

I only noticed because the Vibe started pitching backwards in the hover badly and at the end of the Tank of fuel I was looking it over!!! If I had gone out for more loops or flips today could of gone very very bad....
