I would also recommend a Revlock of one type or other. The Revlock 20 is better as the algorithm was changed to help stop the engine hunting when it isn't tuned properly or the geometry of the throttle linkage isn't at its best. If you get a Revolck 10 you can have it reprogrammed to the Revlock 20 all beit without the PC interface.
I would recommend any governor that you don't need a tacho to set the headspeed accurately. That way you can set it up single handidly.
Aerospire MultiGov, Futaba GV-1, Revlock 10 and 20 or Curtis Youngblood ATG V3 can all be setup without the need for a tacho. Revlock 30 or 40 if you also want collective pitch management.
I have used the Revlock 10 and 20 both easy to set up and use, but both very limited.
Set up of head speeds is a bit of an guess tbh and not that accurate. If you also require a mixture control system, then you have to purchase an additional carbsmart unit.
I have changed over to Multigov pro's and have never looked back. Yes they are more expensive but you pay for what you get in this life.
Am I saying CSM gear is rubbish? NO it is fantastic. I use CSM 720 gyros, it's just I feel the Multigov is better for this job.
Speak to the guys at Fast Lad.
My money goes on the Aerospire Multigov Pro, I have had the ATG and it realy needed the GView to make the most of it. The MGP has temperature control for the mixture so it is a Carbsmart and Gov in one package should you wish it. You can have different temps for different speeds and a few other tweaks in there which seem very well documented in the manual, something I havent found in the other gov's I have looked at.
I would second Andy's comment about getting a gov you dont need a tach for, it makes life a lot easier

Futaba 12FG/ Knight 3D / 450Pro / Beam E4 and a whole load of gliders!

It would be helpful if you shared your information on this please. I found the instructions quite explicit about how the lights show what speed the engine will run at. It was a simple process of converting that to a headspeed knowing what gear ratio my model uses.
Personally I also use the MultiGov. As you have to enter the gear ratio it displays the headspeed and not engine speed. If you don't know the gear ratio of your model you are as screwed as using a Revlock!
Throttle Jockey Rev Max limiter, just set your idle ups to 100% straight line so the Rx is always seeing a full throttle signal and let the Rev Max hold the throttle down to whats actually required.
If it bogs, the Rev Max releases and you already have a full throttle signal there..
If you want the best then the multigov pro is the way to go. have used mine in both my 700 and Aurora. It is now on the latter BUT I run the Align gov on the 700 and 600 and cannot fault it other than it overspeeds occasionally.
mixture control isnt all it was cracked up to be in my opinion... ive a carbsmart sat in my box that i took off when the sensor seemed to fail. cant be arsed with it any more.

Just the same here, Tried it....Wasnt impressed then removed and sold it.

Yup - you need the engine tuned in the first place, I used to use mine to monitor in flight temps, I havent put it in the 700 although there is a nice servo holder built in to the frame, so some people think there is definatly a market for it.
I have an Align gov which came with my 700 kit if anyone wants to buy it, never fitted. £30 quid posted (paypal gift)

They work great and are laughably easy to set up.
I agree.
And the argument that if the unit fails or throws a magnet then your engine is instantly dead due to being stuck at full throttle is a weak one. You can soon tell if your engine is stuck at 100% during flight, and you just have to flick back to normal flight mode (i.e. limiter disengaged), land and sort it.
