  • 450 Size Machines - 3s, 4s or 6s

As the thread title suggests how are people powering there 450/480 size models?

3s was always the starting point on the old Trex 450, but then people started going 4s for more power and better duration, but abit heavier. But now some people are going 6s on these size machines.

Or with all the improved Lipos we now have, are we back to 3s again as it gives good all round performance.

    What are your experiences?

    Cheers

    Paul

I use 2200mah 3s imports from Hong Kong and I get roughly 7 mins out of them if just hovering about and about 5 with a little light 3d, have just ordered 2x 2450mah 3s from CWTCO and got a pair for less than £30, gonna chuck em in my heli and time em see what they give but they are mainly for my FunJet.

    Before you ask:

    About 2 miles
    Over £500
    Very difficult
    Over 80mph
NO, you can't have a go

      Mine is 6s.

With the latest batteries I think 3s is plenty powerful enough.

Back in the day 3s was a bit lacking as the cells were a lot less powerful and running a 3s setup was a lot closer to Constant C rating than it is now. Back then my 450 was running on 4s.

Mine are powered with 40c 2200 revo plaitium packs. This gives awsome power for the weight of the model. My experience with 4s on a model this size is a little to much weight being added make it feeling like a whale.

quite a mixed experience with 3S packs I been using. Bought some from HK which have some good power. Oldest packs are 2200 mystery 25c probably about 8 months old, 60 odd cycles and still going. they register about 55deg after 3d and don't puff at all, but are down on power compared with my newer packs. Have also some Winforce ones, which probably only have just over 30 cycles, and although come off cooler, they have started puffing.

Also been using the Hyperions 2200, and the flightpower Eon-X 2200. Still got to get the cycles on them, to see how well they last, but give good power throughout most the flight.

Some of the HK packs with the higher mah rating give a higher headspeed than the hyperions/Eon- x.. probably for about the first 2 minutes.. and tail off but still gives a good flight performance up to the end.. Hyperions and the eon-x give a more consistant head speed though out their flight.

I'm quite happy sticking with 3S... fairly cheap and affordable.
