  • So why is the Trex 600E now rubbish

A bit controversial the title but it's wierd.

I've been away from the forum for probably a year or so, happily flying my planks, my Trex 450 SE v2 and my 2 knight 50's one's a pro and ones a sport.

When I left the 600E was the dogs danglies, with loads of people saying it's the best thing since sliced bread. I've been thinking to myself that I wanted a larger electric heli and so I've been watching the Ebay 600's.

I popped on here and trextuning/ outrage tuning and as a virtual newby all I can see is that the swash on the alaign heli's is rubbish with phasing issues and slop. Also don't even try to run a 600E on 6S cos you will just puff your cells up.

So was the hype a year or two ago just marketing and sponsorship talking. Is it really that bad. Have things really moved on that much.

Should I just burn my current heli's and start again......

p.s. most of this is tongue in cheek and I'm keeping my current fleet and will still try to pick up a cheap 600, but I'm really suprised at Align's fall from grace. ( edit, obviously only my perception and I'm sure they are great)

Align did finally fix the swashplate, but the quick UK one is still a lot better.

It was never really a 6S machine and I still don't think it is to get best out of it.
When running 6S it tends to eat packs and changing it to 8S is a lot of expense on top of the basic kit.

Times have moved on and you can get better performance at a cheaper price from other big electric helis.

So what would you say is better out of interest?
I've been watching some trex 600e's going quite cheaply and was wondering what’s causing their price and desirability to plummet so much!

Logo 500, uses the same packs but turns a slightly smaller blade (550mm instead of 600mm) and it's luvverly...

Or the Outrage 550 (I prefer the Mikado personally) same deal with the packs and blades. The 10cm difference in rotor diameter is pretty negligible too.

The outrage 550 is superb and i love mine.
I still think the 600 electric is a superb heli, i used to own one myself and loved it, i do think they need 8S to get the best out of them and the swash plate is as bad on the trex nitro as the elec, align now do a upgraded swash that improves the heli superbly and the super pro versions nitrro and elec have a better swash.
There is nothing wrong with the elec, and if you can pick one up cheep will be an excellent heli.

my 600e 6s is a lovely stable heli that i use for basic flying about and learning new stuff (incase i deck it!)

I also have a 600e with 8s which is an absolute animal...seasoned 3d'ers say its unbogable and has as much power if not more that a trex700. Im not using it to its full potential by a long shot, but i am looking forward to growing into it so to speak.

600e's are great heli's in my opinion.

Unless you are already a pretty competent flier, I'd suggest that you stop worrying about the heli and concentrate on practising with what you've got.

We all know people who need to have the newest and best.
I sometimes feel sorry for them, because by constantly chasing after a 0.5 % improvement that money could buy, they overlook the 999.9 % that are within reach, if they would only practise more and more systematically. Alas, flying is hard work, buying stuff is not.

I'm pretty much on the same wavelength as GK, get some stick time in,,bought a Swift off Ash as my first "big" heli, really looking forward to building her up and flying her, was going to bling her out with all the alloy head, but the standard head moves with absolutely no slop or "grittyness", just smooth, so if she ain't broke, ain't going to "fix" her, again, many thanks Ash, just sitting and looking at the Swift for the mo (concentrating on the mini titan for now as my learner machine)

I dont really think anyone thinks the 600E is rubbish I just think that because of the wide veriety of choice available now it isn't always the first choice people make.

Ive only been back in the hobby 2 1/2 years and ive seen a huge change in electric helis in only that time.
                        All the best

Just bought one of the new TP5000 6S packs, the ones with the funny transport connector. All I can say is wow, it now performs like my buddy's 12s machine, the pack really is that good!!

The electrolite pack i have for mine has the same effect compared to the brand new FlightPowers 6S 5000mah im using. Unfortunately no matter what 6S pack we do get it they just aint gonna last that long with that kind of power anyways. Regardless of headspeed and how the packs perform they always come off too hot for my liking. Obviously this takes its toll in how long the pack will last with that kind of power. Only way is to go 8S+ for power that lasts but also packs that come off only warm and last much longer.
