So whats the point in spending the extra?
Nobody said anything about spending extra......just find cells that are the right weight AND the right price.
Putting 3D to one side, the machine will still feel hefty outside of 3D compared to a pack 50g lighter, 450s are VERY weight sensitive.

Horses for courses - I'm only trotting around a paddock - a shirehorse is good enuogh for me. I'll surely be wanting a Red Rum equivalent when I go in the Grand National... and that might not be for a while.
.. yep I take your point - I'm not experience enough to say weither more weight is good or bad for 3D ... but putting slightly more weight in front of the CG will surely change its performance and it would be more noticeable when you thrash it around the sky as you'd do in 3D IMO.

The Turnigy packs aren't as heavy as those on the website, they are only around 825g. I've got 6 packs after buying two initially. The story is that they are 20-30C packs wrongly labelled by the manufacturer, they can't even make 15C packs apparently.

          The good bit: -

I'm using the packs in my Outrage 550 and with a 15T pinion on a Z30-1100 a 5 minute flight used up 3000mAh and I wasn't easy on them. I bought an Outrage 5000 6S packs with the heli and the Turnigy packs are about on a par so far, they both land barely warm. Average discharge rate is around 36A, I'll have to dig out the Eagletree soon.

          The bad bit: -

Not got many cycles yet so cycle life is indeterminate so far and one pack wouldn't recharge after it's second flight - cell 5 voltage had dropped to zero while it was standing for 3 days. I've sent it back under warranty and postage was £12 so if you buy them then a faulty pack is hardly worth returning, I've still got to wait to see if I get a pack back yet!

So far I'm happy, I got 4 packs delivered to my door in 4 days at the price I paid for 1 TP 5000 6S pack 18 months ago which is totally knackered after 60 cycles, at this rate I'd be quids in if I get over 15 cycles, athough I'm expecting a lot more as the Turnigy packs land cooler than the TP packs ever did.

interesting, I may try one, my average amps is 50A so it will get worked a fair bit harder, it may not hold up so well and it's at the higher discharge rates that you start to see the good cells separate from the bad.

Quite agree Ash, hopefully now I've got a whole main gear again and a pinion to suit I can actually start to give them some stick.

A friend at the club has a 700E with the 500kv Scorpion motor and he's using the Zippy 5000 6S packs in series for a 12S setup. Headspeed is around 1950 (same as my nitro version) and he's comfortable getting 10 minutes out of the packs, although he's a fair bit gentler on his 700 than I am with mine It's a little irksome that he gets longer flight times than me.
