  • Lost my bottle?

After having had 2 crashes one after the other in as many flying sessions I took my B400 out yesterday to test fly after initial set up, needless to say apart from one click of trim on Aileron it was perfect and continued to hover until I felt comfortable.
Now on the Sim I can fly all over without issue and do many tricks etc but I was petrified of taking the heli for anything other than a hover yesterday, but when I got my FunJet out I hammered it all over at warp speed.
Could I have lost the ability to fly rotary after playing with my plane? Or is it a simple case of confidence after 2 crashes?
    Nik.

    Before you ask:

    About 2 miles
    Over £500
    Very difficult
    Over 80mph
NO, you can't have a go

I can pretty much say from my personal experience that it is a "Mental Approach" crisis. You can crash in Phoenix sim coz you know it is not going to cost you any time, frustrations or £££ if you crash a heli - back in 3 sec.

.. when it comes to real flying .. well all those "negative thoughts" and gremlins come and numbs your fingers, mind etc.

I find it helps me whenever I am on sim to say that "I'm going to make 5 landings without crashing followed by 5 cross wind take offs and landings" Soon it builds up confidence.

Also accept that fact that :

    a. Blade is not the best outdoor heli.
    b. Transition from aircraft to heli takes a bit of time - patience and slower progress is the order of the day.

    Hope it helps.

I have been there too mate.

Best advice I would say is leave the helis alone, and get your confidence back on the sim, you will know when you have the confidence to fly again, as you will WANT to fly.

Me too been there, and I'm still TG on, tail in. I find that if I've not flown for a few days I get the shakes. I kid you not. It's the kind of shakes that, when you hold your hand out it's as steady as a rock but you still feel like you're shaking.

yeah im with you, it has been weeks since I have flown properly. I get on the sim though everyday without fail for half hour. when I go back to the field again its going to be terrifying because it will be a brand new heli. oh well its only money

If you fall off the horse the best way to deal with it is get straight back on it mate. Ive found positive mental attitude always helps you fly better. Dont say to yourself 'im gonna try this'. Say to yourself ' im gonna do this'. Its all defo confidence which obviously comes with practise. Dont try too hard though because that can make you go a step in the wrong direction too. I also think flying too much can overload your brain and contribute to crashes. Have a small session practising then take a break and maybe go for another one later in the day.
What your experiencing is what alot of us have also in the past. I bet the funjet hasnt even got anything to do with it. Its surprising how much a step back you can take after even 1 crash never mind 2. Good luck with it

I went trough a stage like this,

And was scared of crashing i was shaking ect,

Until i said to myself, lets do this... cleard my mind looked up to skies

and i have not looked back, and my flying has excelled dramatically.

I think the more you think about crashing more likely you will

i am having the same problem, on pheonix i'm fine really confident and no worries, proberbly cos i no it doesn't matter if i crash, and i'm not afraid to push the boundaries.
But, when flying my blade in my small garden i'm also fine, bit restricted to what i can do because of size, but still confident, it's just when i go to a field i get the jitters, sweaty palms, and feels like the shake's inside. i am more worried about it going off and not coming back, rather than crashing TBH. To suddenly have a lot of space seems daunting, exciting though, just abit scary, like looking out to sea if u know what i mean ?
i thin the more i fly outdoors, the more my confidence will grow and loose the jitters, i hope so anyway.

                happy flying all.

Thanks for all your replies, with any luck I will be out again this week so after a hover I will try FF and if all goes well then I will just carry on as I used to.
I think it is mostly confidence as after the 2 crashes which were 1 week apart my heli was also grounded although repaired due to servo gears and the shop I use being closed, so effectively didn't fly for a fortnight.
Will be on the sim tonight though if any of you have G4.5 and fancy a bash
