  • Closed Threads

Why are people aloud open a thread then if it doesn`t go there way close it. Why not just let the moderators decide. Just when things get interesting you see Thread Close.

  • #2
Because they are the thread originator... even if they didnt close it all they would have to do is delete the first post and it would disappear anyways. I know what you mean though and i think i know the threads your talking about in particular too Although in defence they probably honestly dont realise which way the thread could possibly go.

I was a bit bewildered, too. The thread moderator can effectively have the last word = censor all other responses. And prevent me from editing or deleting my posts?
Not that I'd have any hard feelings on the post in question. But now that I'm back from the flying field, I would appreciate if I could get back the edit rights to my post, if only to fix the bad grammar.

now that I think about it for a while longer:

I would like this forum even more, if administrative privileges were restricted to admins who keep acting responsibly, in other words, who are very reluctant to use them.

I found this line from Stuart:
"Main site moderation is very much minimal unless your breaking the rules or straying towards potential legal matters that could cause the site harm"

With that in mind, I was very surprised when the thread was suddenly closed. Well, I guess it's in the small print somewhere

Have to say, this always seemed madness to me, too. If someone really wanted to continue a 'closed' thread, they could just create another one with the same topic.

And as for the thread starter being able to delete everyone else's contributions...

I dont get it either , if someone starts a thread that is likely to be cotroversial , ie , interesting , then surely if members are still posting and as was said nothing that could be used against the site in a legal way , then imo it should be allowed to run . The Killjoys are just spoiling our fun lol . Rob .

Unfortunately, that doesn't work. It makes me look like an unreasonable person that needs to have the last word, no matter the cost.

If you start a thread to discuss something then close it because people are giving different points of view its a bit silly.

I dont like that thread startes can close there own threads, if you post something then you shouldnt be allowed to close the topic because you done like the direction other members have taken you post.

If there is a stupid argument or people are breaking the rules then the mods should close the thread.

The only exception is in for sale threads where the seller should always lock the thread once the item is sold.

The thread originator shut it because he could see it was going to end in a bun fight and he was merely pointing something out. His choice at the end of the day because he legally owns that first post which started the thread/discussion.

We do very little moderation and I'd rather have the thread orginator close a thread than me or a mod. There will never be a good time to close a topic as a long line of members maybe bashing away on keyboards then find that its be a waste of time. Sorry - but that's always going to happen - even if most of the time its not our doing. Someone has to have the key rights to a thread and its only fair that it be the person who started the topic rightly or wrongly. But I'm sure if the shoe was on the other foot then it will balance itself out.
                          Cheers

Personally l agree with the OP but he shut the thread just because not everyone did. You have to also realise things are different in the states. They dont have a problem with flying in the school yard.

I've no idea what the original thread was about but I'd say in the US they have no problem flying in the school yard until someone gets hit/hurt then it's everyman for himself and who has the most expensive lawyer

We can thank the US for our current litigious society and also for the PC Anals we have to put up with on a daily basis in the UK.

I so wish my kids could just go out and do what I used to do without some wanker telling them it's not safe, or they might get hurt or your making too much noise

This country is slowly losing it's way and the plot and as an aside I cannot honestly believe my brother wants to return here from VN he must be fecking mad
