  • Rubish weekend

    Hi all

    Had a cr@p weekend.

To cut a long story short, I put the Trex into the hard stuff big time.

    List at present:

    Tail boom
    Tail rotor belt
    Tail servo
    Gyro
    Washout mixer arms
    Feathering spindle
    Head including grips etc etc
    Possible frame damage
Going to stop as I might cry

Couple of questions for the more experienced crashers:-

    1. The blades look okay (they are the yellow plastic fibre ones). Would they be okay to reuse? I've only ever had woodies and always replaced them as a matter of safety but these blades seem okay with no obvious stress lines. On impact the energy was released through the grips which where shattered and one blade simply parted company along with the grip.

    2. Why oh why did I bother to fly on Saturday?

Saving grace was that I did not use the Shuttle and hopefully the repair bill will not backrupt me.

    Cheers

    Hum...

I wont ask what you did to do that....

Last Thursday in a lot of wind I lost my Trex from being in front of me at 50ft to behind me at 50ft... I caught it nose in.

But I couldnt fight the wind back towards me at... It was pushing it back towards a road so I forced it down and tryed to catch it....

Canopy cracked and lost a canopy support.

how I got away with it I will never know

      Hi Disc

      Happened very fast.

Came in sideways for a touch down. Wind blowing like a s@d.

However, just before touch down I think the wind got under one side of the disc and flipped it over before I could even react (its an age thing).

Bird flipped onto its side whilst still travelling sideways.

Damage seems localised to the head and boom area but I haven't had the heart to dissect it further yet. The list in my previous post is after a quick look over so it may be worse. It sits on top of my sideboard looking very sorry for itself.

Learning that a Trex is NOT for gusty conditions

      Still, never mind.

      Cheers

Sorry to hear about your bad weekend

In my experience any sort of damage to a rotor blade is enough to write it off, so if you are at all unsure of their condition, play it safe and replace them with a new set.

        Cheers,
        Pete.

Ah yes the side on and wind the Trex great little heli that in a gust is a pain... I musy admit that when its windy and I fly the Trex rembering not to try certain things out helps.. Or say sod it and fly the raptor instead

            Thanks Pete

Yes I must admit that my view has always been to replace a set if they hit the ground. Luckily I have the set of woodies so may give them a go when she's back in the air.

These yellow blades are unlike anything I have used before though. They are plastic and show no signs of impact at all

            Still, safety is paramount.

            Hi Disc

Yes, part of me wishes I'd flown the Shuttle instead

            Cheers
