    Quality!

I'm going to be out of it all day today and tomorrow but my thoughts will be with those who did what needed to be done. Proper heroes.

Sadly the sacrifces that were made by those valiant men seem to be all but lost on the modern generation. Even worse our own history is slowly being erradicated from teaching.

In an article in today's Daily Telegraph following veterans on their return to Normandy one is quoted as saying "It's lovely now - the sea's not pink today" whilst another when asked 'What was it like, really, 65 years ago? What was it like?', he replied "If you were not there you will never know. Go to a cemetery and look at every cross and think of each one as a son or a husband or a father of children and count them, and then you might know a little"

In my opinion the gratitude that we owe these people cannot be overstated. Too much time on his hands or not Hangar-7 the other members on here should be commended for remembering those who paid the ultimate price for our freedom.

Understand. My father went up at Arromanches on June 7 1944. Granted much of the fighting would have been over by then but I'm sure what he saw wasn't nice.

My dad has been dead for a few years now and, as I type, I'm welling up.

I went to see Gold beach a few years ago and saw the remains of the Mulberry harbours.

A few years later I went to see all the other beaches, Omaha, Utah, Juno and Sword. Trust me, I will never forget...

                      Here's a few pics:

What you have quoted is very touching. I remeber at age 10, I went to a War Cemetry in Kohima, India some 9,000 miles away from England and then to see thousands of names of fallen soldiers made me realise the sacrafice they have made - in my book they were all heros from then on. And on entrance to the cemetry it inscribed (slight correction : actual quote is as I found out today)

"When You Go Home, Tell Them Of Us And Say,
For Their Tomorrow, We Gave Our Today"

                        I have never forgotten it.

                        God bliss all
