What did you buy? Everything we have is cheaper so I can't see how we wouldn't have been cheaper

    I'll rectify if so.

I've never used this store but it saddens me for any business to fail, other than those that genuinely don't deserve to be in business. I'm sure that, from the comments in this thread, Symon's store never fell into that category tho.

            Symon

Please don't take my post as a slur on your store. I, like other posters find it quite saddening that a store (someone's lively hood) goes to the wall. You could also be my local butchers (Kennedys).

It's just that at these cost conscious times (and I'm not looking to spend bundles to save bundles - that just sounds like my wife ) I thought a closing down sale was just that - everything must go - offer me a price.

It's a cut throat world to be sure, but I've seen high street chains offering 50% off on closing down sales to get rid of stock & I'm glad your not in that situation, but personally, it would benefit me more, obviously.

I really would prefer to pay you the going price of a set of blades than a discount price, knowing that's the difference of your business going up the wall.

Best of luck for the future, from someone who has little money in this economic climate & who is circling the thermals like many others.

I just noticed by chance that Symon's Heli store was closing and ordered some trex 450 bits to help him out rather than ordering from one of the other big players.

The order arrived the very next day but one item was incorrect (the part numbers were 1 digit different). I called Symon and the replacement arrived the next day.
I offered to pay for the incorrect item as I could have used it but Symon wouldn't have it.

Top service from a top bloke. It is a real shame that The Heli Store is having to close
              Cheers, Lee.

Most big shops "Closing Down Sale" can discount by 50% because their profits are anywhere between 50% and 80%, so they'll still break even at worst.
My shop used to have a profit margin of anywhere between 27.5% and 40%, meaning after VAT being removed, profit was substantially less.
10% net profit is hard to work with, you have to sell a lot of stuff to make ends meet.

I've ordered what I can Sy, thanks for the opportunity, wish it wasn't under these circumstances though.

Its because of the 'big' stores that the little ones are going under, if we all boycotted FL for a month and bought here instead then he wouldnt have any problems

Dam right! FLs are the best out there and deservedly so. Their superstore is what most retailers dream of.

I must point out that the quoted prices earlier were meant only as an example to show we're not all that bad by any means.

Please, anyone, don't take that example as being derogatory to these businesses (as already said in the post).

Long after we've gone the other stores will be providing the same top quality service that has made them what they are today and with quality prices to match.

Some of our items are only lower (original price) than other company's due to the fact they aren't part of the new stock which went up in price when the pound plummeted. Newer stock would have had to go up.

Also, in this industry, the bigger bulk buyers only get a tiny (1-2%) discount on large bulk orders. It's quite a level playing field unlike most industries. Margins are virtually none existent once actual pricing is made. RRPs can never be upheld as they're normally too high. So the recent price hike was less profit for stores as the RRPs went crazy and nobody would have dreamed of selling at them.

                          Cheers bud

50% off is only seen in stores that make 100-200% markups.

The model industry is closer to 10-15% all in.

We would return the stock to the supplier rather than land ourselves in further debt by selling things at huge cost to us.

15% off is a good way to make very good savings as it's still a huge amount on already low prices.

But believe me...I wish I could have a 50% off sale...it would be awesome to give that much back to the community. But it's completely unrealistic for this industry I'm afraid.
