  • gaui 100 fights back

my gaui has gone mental it has started throwing blades at me luckily on both occasions it has missed but what i dont understand how the blades have pulled through the screws the first time i was told to glue the spacer to the blade ,this i did the next time it happened the blade covering and spacer were still in the blade holder so now do i strip the covering and glue the spacer directly onto the blade or is there another way to stop this, not a bad post for my 1000 post ,any suggestions please also the blade holder screws keep coming loose even though i have thread locked them should i use a stronger glue?

Sounds like the 2nd time, the blade grip came off the feathering spindle?
The feathering spindle bolts need threadlocking into the spindle - you also need to make sure there is no grease or oil inside the spindle threads, or that just negates the usefulness of the threadlock.

Use blue threadlock on the bolts.

no the second time the blade grips where still on with the spacer and the piece of covering that the spacer was glued to the end of the blade had pulled through the bolt, these are standard gaui wooden blades .

The T-Rex 250 carbon fiber blades are pretty good. You won't break those. Just be careful to loctite the feathering bolts and check blade grips before every flight. They have a tendency to come loose.

My last spontaneous mid-air explosion with the EP 200 happened on the grounds of a museum for anti-aircraft guns.
The official explanation was: blade broke off at the root. But, everybody was watching the heli. Nobody noticed the missile launch

Yeah that's what I was thinking. It must be spinning those wood blades too fast.

The trex 250 carbon blades are too big for the gaui 100, unless the boom has the long conversion done on it.

                that is true...
let's list this then under "any suggestions":
                - long boom
                - long belt
                - maybe long boom support
                - EDIT longer pushrod for the tail rotor
and it's a completely new heli.

an SA-3 can do a nasty job on such a small heli...

                        >> wood the 100 cope with that conversion .
it works perfectly fine. Simply buy the parts from the first-series EP 200 (i.e. no torque tube).
I added a picture to my earlier post.

The problem with CF blades (short or long) is: If you crash, it wrecks the expensive mixing arms.
Helidirect sells a 3rd party mixing arm for $10, compared to $16 for the GAUI one. Maybe preorder one or two.

They do a conversion which includes a set of wood blades, boom, belt, and longer servo rod. The blades are again wood, and tbh.. I wouldn't use them unless the throttle is pegged back by quite some considerable amount.

I was 3d'ing my gaui 200 with a set of wooden blades mid flight.. and it's as they say... it looks as though it was shot out of the sky!

                          I wouldn't use wooden again..

bl**dy thing is still fighting ,put the c/f blades on ,changed the gyro for a 401 give it to one of our young guns to try and set up for me ,said it was flying really well and then the the blade grips came away from the head so now i am left with a head(heli) with the remains of the screws stuck in the head ,has anyone tried removing screws this small that have been thread locked or is it best to replace it if so does anyone know where i can get a good deal
