  • Possibility of a new section for learning new heli manoeuvres?

    What does everyone think?

I think it would be good to have a seperate section to ask for advise/tips on learning stuff whether it be basic moves or insane 3d stick banging.

maybe even a sub section so that the more experienced pilots could write some how-to guides for each maneuver - from simple things to more advanced

I think that's a good idea also. I'm just hovering ATM, but am already thinking about lazy 8's, circuits, etc, and it would be nice to have a dedicated thread for this sort of thing.

I think it's a sound idea. However, my only concern is that I'm not too sure how those experienced pilots could put into words what needs to be done to execute some of the moves they do.

I'd perhaps liken it as similar to learning to play the piano by reading a book. Read a few pages and then go off and tinkle a few keys. Read a few more pages, go back to the piano... You get my drift.

some of the moves would be difficult but most could probably be simple diagrams of the heli position with diagram of the stick positions.

of course it really come down to the fact - have they got the time or would they want to do is

I see where you are coming from, but not matter how much someone tell me how to do something it wont stick, and it certainly wouldn't if I was to be reasing it off the screen.

The best advice is to keep practising on the sim.

I agree it's best to practise on the sim but if you don't know where to start or having problems in a certain part of a move then it would be useful to have a part of the site to ask these things instead of trawling through the main discussion section.

I agree again I am trying to fly backwards and I am trying on the sim but I cant get anywhere and with out any help it is hard and very frustrating.

Most maneuvers are, technically, really quite simple. Flying backwards is just flying, but going backwards. Pie dishes are just flying sideways in a circle. Flips are just really small loops.

Once you can fly (hover all orientations and fff), it seems to me the hardest part is finding appropriate mental approaches so that you can learn to fly the more complicated maneuvers naturally. For example, when learning backwards flight, you have to learn to uncouple the direction the heli is pointing from the direction the heli is moving. One technique I used was to concentrate very hard on the helicopter and pretend that really it's just hovering. Separately I would try to decide on a flight path that I wanted the heli to hover. Once you've got the hang of this, it's not too hard to start working on sideways flight.

Phoenix has a tutorial built in. It shows the moves and has the TX showing the stick movements, the chap that does it also talks you through it so make sure your speakers are on...I know it's no replacement for the real thing, but it's a start

I have tried this and it is very good and Duncan make it look so easy.

When I try circles the heli starts off fine and it all goes well till it gets past noise in then it ballons up I end up over correcting the tail...

                            I need more practice....

Good idea if it will work Richard.

See what Stuart has to say about the matter and of course the willing experienced pilots input is vital.
