On second thought ....Looking at your signature ...
If this should be your 1st nitro I d think long and hard ..
Its a lot of cash and a really advanced 3d machine...is this really necessary??

Id start on a good/tuned 2nd hand Rappy or hirobo ...Even better buy my evo 50 Its super smooth and RTF :O))))

No honestly ... its not a 1st nitro machine IMHO

thanks Adder, i didnt even notice there was a newer version ( i was still half asleep at the time when i was browsing the net)

as much as i do like it it would probably be at least 4 months away before i could consider it, i need a cheaper one to gain the experience first. From the amount of replies this is definatly not a main stream heli - probably coz last lads dont sell em

If you really want one then try and see one in the flesh.

No reason not to buy one just because every other person doesn't have one doesn't make it a bad machine

As for 1st nitro 50's.... Only ones to really avoid are the Torque Tube driven ones until you can fly really otherwise costs just jump when fixing as gears tend to strip a lot easier especially on touching the tail blades.

              But I don't see why it wouldn't make a 1st 50 at all

the fact that there arnt a lot around isnt putting me off getting one. ive just dowloaded the instruction manual for it and there are a lot of different settings you can choose (very responsive/responsive/less responsive) so thats another tick for it as i could always just change the links as i progress. the fact that its belt driven tail is a bonus as if i got a 600nsp i would need to take off the torque tube for the same reasons you mentioned so thats more money ontop of the kit price.

still working out figures really ( total cost / crash repair etc..) it is really tempting me for some reason - more than some of the other helis im considering, but im trying to hold back a bit before i go jumping into getting one

If you get Rotorworld magazine somewhere there was X90 review. X50 is same as X90 but a little smaller

All kits comes now with Bando belt including X90. What comes to parts almost every part is (2 in bag) and they are very reasonable priced.

No reason not to buy one just because every other person doesn't have one doesn't make it a bad machine

                  Exactly. Great heli!

That is true and if you want to go later to TT just buy upgrade kit to X50

                    Hi Ian

You are welcome to come and have a look at my X-Tremes in action and make your mind up that way. The mixing options on the head mean it can be set to be very sedate and is the ideal trainer. The mixing options can then be altered as your flying improves upto an all out 3D machine. The pre 2009 version is a belt drive and the 2009 version will be available as a torque tube or belt drive with the usual choice of frame material.

I should warn you however they are not a plastic fantastic. They are a builders machine, although not difficult to build, the best results will be from taking care during assembly. Reliability wise, My X-Treme 50 was the first one in the country, has yet to be crashed, has been flown by many people and used as a gyro/ governor/ regulator/ blade test bed and I have yet to replace anything other than the clunk tubing and tail pushrod!!!

                          Ian

I have owned an XTreme 50 in the past. Although I'm no expert flyer, I consider my flying to be up to the standard to give an honest opinion. The first thing that springs to mind is that Rainman is correct in saying that it is very much a builder's heli. Although not difficult to build, it does require some patience in setting the head up.

The heli itself flies extremely well. and is ideally suited for both beginners and hard 3D flyers. However I found that it requires a lot of upkeep. I was doing something to it every single week. There are three members of our club that have had XTreme 50's and only one of those three has still got his (Country & Western). He has had to spend a lot of time and money in keeping it flying with various issues. However he is now extremely pleased with it and intends to keep it. But for me, there was too much messing around. I've had two Align 600N's and now have two 700N's. I have never had any issues at all with any of them. You build them, fly them and put them away until the next flying day.

To summarize, the XTreme 50 is an excellent heli, but needs a lot of attention.
