  • Tail belts,how tight is...

    Too tight?

    Its on my trex 500.

Last night, the tail slipped round 330 degrees, shit myself proper!

I sprayed with silicone the other week and the belt must of started slipping.

Stripped it down last night to soapy water the belt and gears and clean inside the boom and rebuilt.

When i stick my finger in the side the belt moves in slightly and seems to be gripping well again

Is too tight when it wont flex at all?

VBControl, but not the gay white version as i'm simply not gay enough to pull it off!

I'm not sure on a TRex 500 but on the Blade 400 the correct tension is push on the belt through the little viewing hole and it should go in no more than halfway across the distance to the other side of the belt.
As a base point I would go with the same
    Nik.

    Before you ask:

    About 2 miles
    Over £500
    Very difficult
    Over 80mph
NO, you can't have a go

Don't forget the 'Search' and 'Thanks' buttons.

Grab the head with one hand, grab the tail rotor with the other. If you can easily twist the tail rotor then it's too loose. If you can't budge it, it's too tight. With a reasonable force you should be able to get it to jump a tooth. I wouldn't advise doing this too often!

This titbit of advice came one of Paul Heckles' instructors. Controversial maybe, but wouldn't you rather find out if the tail belt is about to break on the ground rather than in the air?

On a scale of 0 to 3D, about 1.53 and counting (backwards at the moment...). Getting there though, 0.1D at a time!

I use the same method as sqwidge. It needs to be tight but not over tight.
