  • 450xl rip

A few days ago while flying at the Ely Flying Club I was pulling off some of the most exciting flying to date when while executing a nose up and tail whip up to come back down and so on... She lost all power and from 20ft hit the deck powerless in long grass.

To say the damage was bad is an understatement, the main frame was bust just about everywhere, where the frame broke it split the motor in two and the outer shell was warped and wouldn't snap back together, the AR6200 dead, and a badly damaged Li Po, mind you it was a bitch to get going period that day, why I have no idea, I just put it down to the odd glitch most things have once in a blue Moon.

The wires from the ESC ripped out, so the only salvageable parts were the tail gear assembly, main rota assembly, Gyro, and believe it or not the freaking blades, not a mark on them, now I ask you.......?

Had I pushed my ability's too far fair enough, but when one falls out the sky through no fault of your own, as I run a tight ship checking everything on all my birds at least once a week it's a right **** off.

My good news is I've purchased a second hand Trex SE V1 from Simply Trex with everything on it :-
    • T Rex 450 SEV1
    • CSM SL420 Gyro
    • 3 x Hitec HS65HB
    • Futaba 3154 High Speed Digital Tail Servo
    • Spektrum AR6200 6 Channel Full Range Receiver
    • Thunder Power Light 2100mAh Battery
    • Carbon look Paddles
    • Pre Painted Version 2 Fibreglass Canopy
    • 3 Sets of Main Blades
    • Aluminium Carry Case
It's in mint condition all set up RTF just needs binding to my TX and she's away, at a price I couldn't say no to, so that's taken the sting out of losing my long suffering XL, bless her I've learned nearly everything on that bird so she had sentimental value, as she was also my first real Heli'.

I know have a small plastic container full of the saved parts so at least in her stead she'll keep me in spares for many years to come.

I just wanted to give her a good send off and share some much needed good news as well.

I have a hunch the AR6200 developed a fault somewhere, I done a volt check on the ESC with what was left and it was pushing volts OK.

Thats annoying, especially when you end up with so much damage. I've landed in the tall grass a few times and got away with minor damage, gear, link, canopy etc!

Still at least you have another bird to pamper! LOL.

Yea I guess that's true, lol, at the time I thought long grass thank god for that, expecting only minor damage but how wrong was I, she was a right off apart from a few undamaged parts.

            What a bugger wayne!

Happy to see that your going to be back up in no time!

Still, its interesting to see what caused it to fail and drop out the sky!

Sounds like a thermal shut down of the esc, a brown out of the rx or the battery became disconected. We`ll probably never know.
