Just got a set of Maniac 2 703 blades with the intention of putting them on the 700 but the bolts dont go through the holes. Did i order the wrong blades?
i've not got the maniac 2's but i have the original ones, i've never had to do anything but fit them.
only thing i can suggest is look in the box for different brass inserts or take the inserts out. this was common place not long ago so i'd guess you need to do the same with these.
Thanks for the replay Paul but there is a further problem. The other insert is bigger than the hole in the blade. Surely BBT dont expect users to drill the blades out to fit the inserts?
You may just be able to make out the other insert is about 0.8-1mm bigger OD than the currently fitted one.
i can indeed just make that out mate. i would suggest you have the wrong inserts in the box there. there is no way you will be able to press those in without damaging the blades/gel coat i'd wager and i most certainly wouldn't drill them out either. you probably could drill them as it's usually a wooden core at that part but i wouldn't expect to have to do it.
call fastlads in morning or drop them a PM on here.
Hi Craig. I have had three sets of maniac 2's, 2 sets have come have come with 4mm bolt holes. The first set I had to drill out to get the 5mm to fit which was a real ball ache and something I aint doing again. Fastlad changing my second set. (Crashed my other set that had original 5mm holes). I think it is a mistake at manufacture but not sure what Robbe (distributor) are doing about it as clearly an issue. They are stunning blades though, better than the original maniacs in my opinion.
Well apparently according to Fast Lad, Robbe are saying that users are expected to redrill the holes so that the bushes end up as press fit into the blades. Idea being that if both bushes were the same OD then pushing out the previous bush would mean the new one was not a tight fit. Im not buying that.
Needless to say i went ahead and drilled them out. They actually have some aluminium inside the root as well as wood. Just have to be very careful to keep the drill perpendicular to the blade. I guess Robbe expect every one who buys Maniacs to have a pillar drill and bench, lol.
Said i wouldnt buy anymore maniacs after the 600 ones but since FL was out of Torions i bought them since they were the same price. DEFINATELY not again.
that is concerning to say the least. i like maniacs but i don't like the sound of this. i can't think of a 90 off the top of my head that those blades will bolt onto?
fwiw craig, the maniacs are better than torsions imho
I`m with you Craig, I find it astonishing that BBT or Robbe expect the user to drill these blades out to fit a 90 size heli. Surely most of the popular machines now all use the 5mm bolt hole!? NHP used to supply brass collars that you simply pushed through to choose either 4 or 5mm holes and they worked fine and were always a tight fit. I think SAB have done the same in the past.
I just really like the Maniac 2 blades so just have to keep my fingers crossed I get a set with 5mm holes or wait for the INSANE's, but if they are putting 4mm in the maniacs then who says they won't come through on the INSANE. Come on Robbe, sort it out, this is a ballache.
This is the first set of Maniac 2s i have had and only my first 90 so dont have anything to compare.
I just recently swapped the 600 from Maniacs to GCT Ultra to Torsions and noticed a huge difference on head loading. Doing 4 point tick tocks the GCT and Torsions dont load the head nearly as much for the same pitch. On the other hand though Maniacs are loud and snappy in the air
On another note i bought another YS91 and right out the box its a completely different beast. Flew 5 tanks on it today and its already tuned better than the first one. Didnt do anything different to this one so who knows.
i have not tried the 600mm torsion but i have had a set of 710's. pretty nice blades but i'd buy the maniacs over them again (i've not flown the maniac2's yet).
on a similar note, my 2nd trex has a set of original white sab blades and i love it, i dunno why but they suit the heli. i didn't like them on the synergy and they actually work better than the newer style sabs.........go figure.
I find it astonishing that BBT or Robbe expect the user to drill these blades out to fit a 90 size heli.
What a backwards step by BBT / Robbe.
I can't believe anyone would pay in the region of £60 to £70 for a set of brand new blades then be expected to start drilling the things to make them fit.
Was quite a fan of Maniac blades but you can 100% be sure no more will be coming my way.
Ive been a big fan of maniacs and I am using them on all my machines at present but im thinking as I break them Ill probably be replacing them with another make.
Ive had the same issue and I was told to drill them out as well, I didnt like doing this but I did and it all worked out ok, however this is not the point, the other issue I had was I had a set of the origional maniacs for my 700 and one of the weights in the blades has broken free, now like most of you I look after my machines so the blades were spotless, never been grounded and there were no marks on them, when they went back the feedback I got from the supplier is that robbe were not prepared to do anything other than offer me a small discount on a replacment set, as I quote "I had knocked them about and abused them". I told them so shove the discount where the sun dont shine.
Ive not spoken directly with Robbe as yet but I aint happy.
