  • Which to buy, Gaui 200 or Align 250

Ok chaps, since giving up the cigarettes (my body is still in denial) I am saving about a hundred odd quid a month so the credit card is gonna get a good smack on the chin, I'm looking at the Gaui 200 and the T-rex 250 but I have no idea which is best, I've heard that the Gaui has some issues with the tail binding which kinda puts me off it and have also read a few things about the Align kits having somewhat inferior screws etc, as I'm still pretty new to this and this will be the first kit I have built can you guys offer any advice?, I'm leaning slightly towards the Align tbh as there are more of you on here that have variants of the trex and less who have Gaui's.

Would really appreciate any thoughts on this subject, hopefully having something to do with my hands will make the smoking cessation a bit easier and I can see a whole lot of late nights coming looking after my soon to arrive baby boy whilst my better half sleeps.

    Cheers guys.

    All the best

Hi Eddie, I have my King 3 at the moment and the wife has said she'll buy me another large sized heli for Christmas so I quite liked the idea of something that I can fly in my garden, it's a bit too small for the King so unless I take her into work I have to go through the whole drive to fly thing whereas if I have something smaller and feel like flying I can simply walk out the door and fly, I have my buzzfly at home but it's not the same flying fixed pitch after collective.

dont worry about the align screws, fast lads sell replacement screw kits that you can use.

i echo Eddies statement, why 250 and not 450?

hi both helis are good i have a t rex 250 that is trouble free and my m8 has a gaui and he has trouble with the tail binding on his and the belt. build the t rex carefully dont rush and you will be ok. neither heli will out perform the other as they are both good contenders.

I have had the pleasure of owning both models and both are quite different in flight. Both are great helis however, I kept the best in my opinion the Gaui 200. Main reasons the Gaui was more locked in during the hover and was more stable when throwing it around. On the slight occations where both came into contact with the ground the Gaui was more robust. The Trex 250 was difficult when damaged to repair, the screw heads had a tendancy to round off and it seemed to sustain more damage than the Gaui.

I would recommend the Gaui as an all round fun heli and ease of repair.

              Hope this helps

                Gooie or 250??? Now there's a question....

Both of these turbo wasps are a handful because of their small size the early rex had tail issues and some servo trouble if i remember cant remember about the gooie... Yep the align screws are maid from cheesium as are all align screws from 250 all the way to 700....

Both need flat calm or you have no chance outdoors. The level of skill required to keep a small heli in control is significantly greater than a larger one.... They are significantly more twitchey the smaller they get.... Do some research on tehm before you jump in as there were significant numbers of 'early adopters' that no longer own their little-un's....

I owned the gaui (torque tube version) and the 250. The Gaui in my view was a big pile of sh*te. The 250 has been far better. Gaui spent it's entire life waiting to be repaired, inflight failures mostly.

I (and a few others) were happily 3Ding the Gaui 200 (Version 1 belt drive) in 10 MPH winds (gusting even more) at the North Notts heli fly -in on the standard plastic blades with no problems. It was quite fun watching the blades flex on Tick-Tocks!!!

I prefer running on the 2S lipo as the 3S requires a pinion change, which I can not be bothered doing. I have also flown with the Gaui wooden blades and the glass blades and prefer the wood. I have had many flights and have had zero reliability issues.........so far

The model has had a few crashes, the most expensive one was when I let a friend fly it indoors. He managed to hit 3 walls and the floor at max RPM. Repair bill was £12 and took me 20 minutes to get it back in the air!

Not really a fan of anything Align, so will not comment on the 250

These small helicopters are inherently more difficult to fly than their larger brothers, but still great fun, especially for garden flying. Being small however, they will quickly get away from you.

aye, I have been thinking it may be a bit twitchy and possibly above my station, have been looking into both of them for about the last 8 evenings and just looking through more of the posts there seem to be quite a few for sale and if the guys are anything like me they wouldn't sell equipment unless they were after something better, easier to get on with or wanted to get rid of because they were no good.

I am thinking slow down a bit, what would you suggest as middle ground between 250 and 450?, is there such a thing?

                        Thanks Eddie.

How big is your garden mate,Because even with a 250 all you would be able to do is hover as in circuits it's just too quick. So if your just hovering then you wanna get a 450 plus it will last you longer.and hovering in a small space is more challenge and you will become better quicker that way, plus Say for example you go out for day with your mrs and family you can always take the 450 and if your passing a field or big area then out it comes for a play If i had a garden that was 20m squares i would still think it wouldn't be big enough for a 250.

Hey Grant, yeah I definately hear what you are saying re hovering in tight spaces, I've limited my space with my buzzfly to about 2 metres square just for that exact reason, I'm still at the point where I'm learning to hover well with my King3 and it's still quite feisty, didn't help that I had a crash and I think I may have reinstalled the feathering shaft in the wrong manner, I tightened one end up first and I seem to remember the threads were protruding equal lengths at both sides after the nut and now I have one longer than the other, I need to look at it tomorrow really, the size of the garden is odd, it's long and narrow, I thought there would be a way of setting up either heli to be a bit calmer than 3d craziness, tbh I'm not really going for 3d, I like the idea of going inverted but the rest of it is all a bit of a blur to me when I watch it, don't know how the hell people can do it, it's all so quick. I do like the idea of being challenged by the smaller heli's and I guess thats because of the buzzfly, it's really tricky but once it's set up it's great fun to fly.

Brodie, although a 450 is obviously bigger than a 250.It will be easier to fly in a smaller space because the 250 has a much HIGHER head speed than a 450 due to it's size. And with this being higher it makes the cyclic responses that much quicker. You may think that a small heli is wise due to small space but i think it's wise to go 450 mate.I practice with my 450 in a space of less than 10 square metres and it's fine.Plus if you have a king 3 already....aren't these 450 size, why do you want another if so?
